36K, Auxilliary belt & bearings??

Hi,

This old chestnut again. Need a 36k service. Have been phoning around the Renault garages and it's looking at about 500 quid including the belt. R Sport in Wimbledon wanted 200 for the service, 200 for the belt and another 100 "if the bearings were cracked" or something like that. Firstly, is this essential? Would you trust a local garage to do the work if they are reputable? I've found a place in Catford that guaruntees the quality of their service for a year or 12K, I just don't trust Renault Stealers but really want a service!! What else in needed in a 36K??

Thanks!

Think I paid around the £350 mark for mine. Can't remember exactly now. That was at a Renault Dealer. Keep phoning around!

its about 200ish if you have pollen filter changed , and its the automatic tensioner (i believe) for the auxillary belt that may need changing. they can break/become noisy and you can see it best when the belt is removed. i know you say you dont trust renault dealers dealers but rsport have some good feedback on this site from others that have used them and for a dealer that doesnt seem to a bad price to me. look on here for recommended places and just make sure the garage you go to know what they are doing as sometimes its worth a little bit more for a decent job.

Sorry, MK2 172! I've phoned all the local stealers, would love to get to GDI but live in Lewisham and am fitting a kitchen at the mo and am driving to dorset in 3 weeks, unless I wait until we're back. There are only 4 dealers near me, Dartford, Beckenham (heard bad things!), Orpington (same as Beckenham!) and one near the City but they wanted 350 without the belt!!!! I guess I'll try and beat Dartford down, I also need the knocking sorted but wonder what story they'll come up with for that, especially as I've got the KTech dogbone bushes!

PS: I've already thought about trying to get to Rentech on the way but the Mrs isn't having it!!

LOL @ Mike ^
Last year I tried planning a hol in Dorset and mentioned "calling in" at KTR - my wife was like "your avin' a laugh", I didnt pursue the idea funnily enough !

Got to point out I wasn't knocking R Sport as I've heard good things, but also heard they weren't as dear, a factor if I'm driving across London before work to drop it off. Great info though thanks all, decisions, decisions!!

I'm still not getting this. Why, when I phone up and say "I want a 36K service on an 02 172" do I get prices ranging from 200 quid to 600?? Surely the Renault "specialists" should know that the 36k includes the belt change and quote for that, instead I am saying "does that include the auxilliary belt" and then getting ramped up by another 200 to 300 quid?? Getting a bit fecked off now!!! If I go for a 200 pound service without the belt, will I be adversely affected selling on and of course if the belt snaps?? Surely at 72k you don't have to suggest to them they include the cambelt????

36k with acc. belt works out around £250 give or take a few quid from me.
36k without acc. belt costs £140-150 ,36k is no different from 12k or 24k service.
All genuine parts used and Elf Excillium 5w/40 used.

Book time for the acc. belt is 2.1 hours, I tend to knock that down a lot if i'm servicing the car as well.

The acc. belt on a Clio 172 cup without air con is piss easy so would only put an extra 0.25 of an hour on the bill.
Its the ones with air con that are more involved.
