Hi, hope I am posting this in the correct forum, my '04 182 is now due for its 36k service. Should I get this done at the main Renault dealer to keep the service book looking good or does it really not matter (my boyfriend has a Porsche and on his car he says it is very critical)? Or can I get it done at any old garage? Prices quoted for the service have varied from £250 at the dealer to £100 from a Renault "specialist", if I can have it done at an independant can anyone recommend a good one in or near Salisbury? Thanks in advance.

on a porsche it might be slightly more critical, but there are loads of really good ppl that will service ur clio for a lot less, and to a higherstandard. Try GDI or Yozzasport, or if ur daaahn saaarf then Rentech might be a good bet. Any probs drop me a pm and ill point u (hopefully) in the right direction.

Its fine to have it serviced elsewhere as long as they use original renault parts.
TBH, i would be happier seeing a log book full of GDI, Yozzasport, Rentek and K-tec etc... then any renault dealer.
Ive just had my 36k service and decided to go independant as renault wanted £660, and they know jack about the sport range lol.
Managed to find a very good garage and will stay with them now for good.
But if you can, i would try go to one of the companies mentioned above.

Tell your boyfriend that unless his Porsche is under 3 years old he should definately be taking it to a reputable independant specialist, not a main dealer. The same thing applies to your Renault. The reason is that if you take a car to a main dealer for a service they will merely follow the manufacturers recommended service schedule. As cars get older, certain things may require attention that do not appear on the standard schedule. As they have experience of older cars, good independant specialists are aware of these issues and will be in a better position to care for your cars properly than main dealers who generally only look after lower mileage, newer cars. For instance, Porsche 944 S2's (and 968's) have a known problem with cam chains and tensioners wearing, which can lead to serious (and expensive) damage. Any good indy will examine this area at service time, whereas an OPC (Official Porsche Centre) will not check this area, as it's not part of the standard Porsche service schedule. Best of luck.

Legally so long as its servicing usede correct Renault parts and the garage is VAT registered then take it anywahere only thing to remember is that if something isn't checked by the garage which it should be as part of the sertvice and it fails Renault won't pay out since its a job that shouldn't have been checked at service time. They would fix it if the garage says done your service and xxx is broken take it to Renault and they'll fix it don't leve it to break then try get Renault to pay as they won't.

I agree mate but 99% of people (not on cliosport) would rather it have full main dealer service history

I use R-Sport in Wimbledon. They are official renault service centres but do give your car the attention like the guys would at gdi, rentech etc.
They mainly service RS models and have no problems sorting out warranty work unlike main dealers who try to blame you then charge you additional wedge.
Its a nice to have a full renault service history as well as per the above comment.
