4 pots

4 pots are pointless on a 1*2.

Get some HC discs and some PROPER pads.

I've got PF97 pads, and I can't see how I could stop quicker tbh!

I don't use it EVERY day, but quite a lot. It's certainly not just for track days.

I've had no issues with them whatsoever. They work from cold, and rip your face off when up to temperature. Occasionally they squeal a little bit, and my alloys got a bit orange after I gave them a proper bedding in lol!

well i am planning on superchargeing it so thought bigger brakes would be needed for that or not?

I ran pagids and then 97s for 3 months at a time and they are brilliant but 4 pots give much better progression

Fact is, no you don't need them, but they're still awesome.

Not 4 pots AND PF97s. But I have been in a couple with 4 pots in and DS2500s.

Oh I see.

I am currently running the DS2500 pads with my 4 pots ( they work well IMO) I am thinking of getting a more aggressive set of pads next though mind.

This TBH.

To DanFreemanPhoto and Fletcher- what are having 4 pots with DS2500 pads like on a 1*2. Stupid question I know but I would be interested to learn your experiences. Do the brakes lock up much in the dry or wet (I know this is semi tyre dependent...) Just how much better are having 4 pots on the front compared with the popular Brembo HC discs and better pad option?

Thanks

I wasn't that impressed with the 4 pots, although it may have been the driver! ;)

I can get the ABS to kick in on my HC+PF97 combo, so I can't see why you'd need more stopping power than that. And it's a lot cheaper alternative to 4pots.

Don't take my word as gospel though. For me, my car weighs less than a tonne. So big 4pot brakes are a bit overkill for me. But that's why the HUUUUGE 197/200s have them, as they are big, fat and heavy ;)

I've been very impressed. For the first couple of years I ran my Compbrake 4pots with the supplied hawk fast road pads, these were good, but IMO the DS2500 pads are better, and they work very well from cold.

The only reason I am looking at getting a more aggressive set of pads in the near future is that the car is rarely driven- bar hard b broad blasts and trackdays.

I upgraded the standard brakes, decent pads, decent fluid and braided lines all round.
Did a track day at Combe and didn't find them very confidence inspiring atall, that much so that I couldn't fully commit in several places and was braking earlier than I felt I needed to just for peace of mind.

So within days I fitted 4pots, again refreshed the fluid and decent pads again, then went to the ring the weekend after.
They were unbelievable, clocked up 17 hard abuse laps in one day and they never gave any indication of not being up to the job.
But I am heavily into my track days and I've always made my brakes as good as I possibly can.

The Clio brakes, even being 4 pots are still probably the smallest sized discs and calipers I've ever used as an upgrade, but do the job perfectly for my driving style with the weight of the car.

Cheers ;)

DanFreemanPhoto- I have used 4 pots on a sub tonne car before and I understand your overkill comment- my car locked up very easily especially in damp or wet conditions. But when the brakes did bite and slow the car the performance was very impressive! What do 197 and 200s weigh- about 1200kg? If so then yeah 4 pots are prob needed..

Fletcher- yeah if the car is rarely driven you can get away with an aggressive brake setup and maybe some squeeling from the pads. I would do the same if in your boat.

Kelv- it sounds like you need the 4 pot performance if you are heavily into track days! Can I ask what callipers and size discs you use. Btw, very nice collection of cars you have there! Have you tracked either the Cossy or FRS- if so how does the performance of the Clio compare? Thanks

Another 4 pot question- depending on the calliper and disc size have many of you guys had to space the wheels at all? Assuming you are using the same 1*2 wheels, I would be particularly interested to hear how 4 pot callipers fit under the standard 182 wheels..
