40mpg!

  Rsport182Cup'd
i have just done an 800 mile round trip to neqwquay and lands end, i have got a roof box on my 182 for the journey and i was getting 35mpg at 75 - 85 mph

Not too shabby atall that mate with a roofbox... wot sorta weight/passengers?:)

me and the missus, back seats loaded floor wells to ceiling with camping gear, boot full and 50 kilos on roof box

i cant see how you get these figures on a 2.0 1.6 i drive like miss daisy seriously 320miles is the best my 1.2 can do the trip thinks 500+ miles till i need a refill it also reseting your trip(spose thats why its called a trip you keep reseting it for trips) will give you low figures its working it out over a short run if you leave it i aways beleved it gave you a more acturate figure i normal reset my trip at the pump when ive filled up its normaly stays steady 38mpg is lowest ive seen mine fall even a trip down the mways doesnt improve my fuel consumption much i take no notice now i will reset my trip for my run into work tomrrow an see again ive done 277miles ive got 177miles till i need fuel acording to the trip (yer right ) with 3lights left on my gauge it claims im doing 41mpg
when i fill my car up i can get 35ltrs in meaning my 50ltr tank has 15left
so hw many gallons in a ltr

ive also been told when looking at the
quoted fuel comsumption figures your aways take the lowest which will be what you get in the real world based on this my cars exceeding that figure

:banghead: end rant

Mine usually sits around the high 30's to low 40's. Its not difficult to drive hard some of the time and still get a decent MPG....just takes brains when driving normally!
Avoid late braking, and do a lot of coasting (thats taking your foot off the accelerator when not needing power...not knocking it out of gear!)

sorry mate but that ain't coasting...thats engine braking..

coasting is either....take it out of gear while moving and just rolling down the road or keeping it in gear but roll along with your left foot down disengaging the clutch..

No actually engine braking is a side effect of coasting whilst the car is in gear....in other words, coming completely off the throttle when gravity is helping the car carry momentum.

In this context (i.e ways to bump up MPG) coming completly off the throttle whilst the car is still in gear is also deemed as coasting.

Your 1.6 must be fooked! I get 380 out of my Cup almost every tank. I tend not to drive like an a$$hole (most of time) and my daily drive is fairly economical. It's all about smooth driving, keeping momentum and relaxing. Bob Marley at volume 14 also helps!

On a short or steady trip these figures are possible.Everyday driving and over all people will probably get into the mid 30's

If they tell you anything else there telling fibs

....says the TDCI driver. High 30's is what I am averaging every tank.

Mine got a proper run on Sunday with some of the guys from the Kent And Sussex Mini Club and despite frequent forays into the 7.5k zone i still didn't drop below 38mpg!

sorry not having that..looks like we'll have to agree to disagree...

Do other people get 40mpg from their 172cup or is mine broke?lol!

I dont do mway miles so maybe this is why?? got 39mpg on a round trip to alton towers recently from cumbria tho, using 1 tank of optimax....:) Not bad at all i dont think considering stuck to about 80ish mph....

lucky b*****d, I hit 29/30mpg on that sort of run at that speed in my lcr

No skin off my nose. You can see it here if you like! http://www.dailyfueleconomytip.com/?p=99:)

"When you coast, keep the car IN GEAR, not in neutral".

"What I failed to mention though was the fact that you should keep your car in gear as you coast. Many drivers, especially those with manual transmissions, tend to put the car in neutral as it coast towards the red light or stop sign, which is rather unsafe to do."

My point all along. :coffee:

lol that was the first google result for me too..

no point ollie, can go all day long...like I said agree to disagre and stop trying to be "the one who is right"

:slap:

;)

arn't smilies fun...

Whats there to argue about? My point was that coasting should be done in gear as its less dangerous...thats a known fact.

So why the need to question it?

  182 has now gone!
As far as I am aware coasting is:

1. Knocking the car into neutral and letting the car roll

2. Dipping the clutch early and holding it down with car in gear and letting the car roll

3. Leaving the car in gear but removing foot off accelerator and letting the car roll

But I am a woman so what do I know???????????

Oh well thats what my driving instructor used to tell me and my dad. Same as when you are crawling in traffic.. leave the car in gear and take foot off accelerator and let the car crawl along on its own

I was getting 50+ on a run today to Cheshire, the run was about 1 hour 30ish and the lowest it dropped was 48ish, that was doing 70, 75 all the way.

Usually get around 38ish town driving

so wen ur braking hard you use your gears to slow you down aswell and your off the acclerator so how can it be classed as coasting when your leaving it in gear and foot off the acclerator because that will slow you down so its engine braking
