If it were my Renaultsport - probably not if i'm honest, even assuming you'll get a cheaper price i'd still be weary, i'd pay more to go to a specialist.

Lets be honest, any mechanic can do a service. Can't you get his number and ask him if he's done an RS?

Does your boss' mate have a full guarentee of work if your car was to blow up the next day?

I'd take it to a proper company if it were me.

not trying to sound funny but RS clio's are hardly a "specialist" car are they... if you were asking if someone could service a Clio V6, TVR or Porsche ect then i could understand but tbh almost anyone who is a qualified mechanic will not struggle. If they are doing cambelt etc then yes practice would help alot but still its a run of the mill clio... thousands where made.

Im sure it will be fine mate but if in doubt then just take it to a specialist :) i do see where your coming from btw

He works from a van lol but apparently he's got all the Renault diagnostics etc... I'm thinking for the sake of 20 quid or so I may aswell take it to someone who already has a good reputation

Its just a standard service mate. no renult spesific tools required apart from the sump key. it'll be fine. Just make sure he uses the correct oil

I always enjoy these threads. My dad has been a qualified mechanic for 40+ years. I'd trust him more than any garage to service my cars. Which he does.

Not doing it myself I have zero experience in servicing, but if people say I can do it myself then I'm sure hel b fine doing it, might get the oil myself though so he don't use cheap s**t

A service is just a service really mate. Any decent mechanic can do a service correctly. Especially a simple oil and filter change.

Ive kept all the reciepts from every single oil change etc

You do get some arsey people though who wouldn't accept this as the book wouldn't be stamped by a dealer.

All through my car history, my dad has serviced my cars, but as he is not in a car garage (he works for a hire drive company) my service books were never stamped. I write in all the details of the service and the work done however thats never enough for some people.

The car has been looked after and maintained, however at a hell of a lot cheaper price than getting that 'stamp in the book'

You should know if you can trust ur bosses mate or not to do your car

its only a basic service so should be fine

I have never gone to a specialist and only ever get my mates to work on my cars
