49.7 mpg!!!!

  R35 GTR
 cruising at a mind numbing average speed of 57 mph for 3 hours.:dead:

This means I get the return journey free as I have gained around 160 miles per tank.

This isnt a fluke, I first got over 50 mpg when I got the car, because i didnt know you could go over 3000 rpm. And another trip of 150 miles behind lorries, gave exactly 51mpg on the computer.

Obviously the figures arent exact, but this shows the car can be economical and fast! Just not at the same time.

Yeah everyone knows the rest of the rev range is fake :p

I get 45mpg on a run on VPower with the cruise set to 70

Well it can either be economical OR fast, personally 3 hours at 57 mph you may as well drive HGV!

I would have rather had some fun and paid the fuel bill :clown:

well money is tight this month.:( Gave it a quick blast upto top of fifth earlier before i filled up.:D

On my work run I managed an easy 45-48mpg in my Cup without having to drive like a complete granny, figured I may as well save fuel as overtaking never got me anywhere during rush-hour. Just simple things like preparing for a roundabout and keeping a reasonable distance in traffic to reduce braking all helped. No excess weight either, usually had the rear seats completely out and never had anything in the boot.

I often wonder about these people that moan that their S-Max only gets 30mpg yet I was getting so much more in a 172bhp Clio, then I see people constantly accelerating and braking in traffic, stopping at roundabout for no reason etc and I realise why.

yeh quite possible to get a decent return out the old 172 if you dont rally it.

when my zorst fell off on a cs road trip, took it easy down the road and averaged 46 mpg.

iv had 420 out a tank as well :D

Lol @ Edde

It's difficult getting 50mpg from a 1.2 on the motorway, your always having to thrash the bloody thing :S not tried stopping at 57mph tho.

I tried it in my old 1.6 and got 56mpg easy on the m/way.

i get 40MPG when i drive normal i guess.. well 40 is good! but this is on a and b roads not motorways! :p but avg of 60 - 70 i guess.. best i got was 45mpg on motorway.. worst is about 27 or somthing if thats atall possible ? :p

  m-tec bmw 325 ci spo
i can get 39.6 on my 1.6 and this week ive struggled to tyo get over 30 mpgs on the way back from the meet yesterday cruising at 60 it went down to 29.5 i think the trip in mine is fucked:dapprove:

  Clio 172 mk2
Pretty impressive

That's one of the things I really like about the 172.....quick & fun to drive but also pretty economical when you need it to be:)

  SLK 350
Since fitting my Turbonator and super-resistor, i've been getting great MPG, and the car is much quicker. Just weighing up whether to get an Ecotek and exhaust-spinner.

  Turbos.
60-65mph on the motorway equals 45mpg in my experience. I find driving fast on the motorway needlessly stressful, and i do reasonably big miles so it saves me a tankful every month by driving like a granny whenever on the M25!

i get better MPG in my 172 than my dad does in his 1.6 06 Reg focus, i avarage about 35 ish when driving normal, but have had it to 18 MPG when pushing it

18??! Pah! I once managed 11 from my old 1.6.......that was a good constant thrash :D

  Clio 182
I find i get about 330 miles out of my tank on V POWER and i have plenty of fun damaging the ozone whilst doing it.

s**t i only get 300 miles on a tank, and all my miles are motorway, f**k i need to change driving style or summat????

if u reset trip just before motorway its like 45mpg but if u do same journey without resetting its 33mpg?

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
Wasn't there a thread on here about something similar with people saying that you couldn't get over 45 and that it was impossible? I've done a search to try and find it as I'm sure I commented on it, but the search returned nothing.

Anybody else know?

If the roads are dead 57 is easy, but getting caught behind lorrys etc doing 55 just gets very boring. I manage an hour and get bored.

Longest I've done is 5hrs straight driving at 60 only stopping when the tank ran dry at the petrol station..

You can drive at 57, its soooo boring, but it saves a few quid

or you can drive at 90, get there 1/3 quicker and it costs a bit extra!

I know what I do! lol

  LY V6 with Recaros
I got about 50mpg out of mine the other day, I reset the computer and drove around about 30-40mph in 5th gear. I don't usually bother being so good though, I just thought I'd see what I could get it up to! I usually do about 30-33mpg.

mines readin 30.9 at the moment, havent reset it in awhile. maybe ill have to start driving slower lol.

The down pipe going into the CAT its self i think has a small pin hole in it. Would this decrease my MPG?

I haven't a clue how you lot manage these high mpg's and say you don't drive like a granny . I get a consistent 24 - 28mpg in my 182 and i did in my 172 . It must be how i drive it , the exaltos only lasted just over 8k miles as well :( economical cars , me thinks not , lol

  1998 BMW e46 323i
I'm with you on this one Dave, the 172 can be really economical (I've had 45+ mpg on long runs like the 100 miles of motorway from Liverpool to Birmingham at an HGV like 56mpg and have 35mpg from the last 3k miles) but it does my fookin head in to drive so slowly. Even with the radio on or being able to chat to a passenger cannot hide it is a mind numbingly slow speed! Can't be safe.

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
and here was me feeling impressed that since the last time i filled up with mixed driving, including 15mins giving chase to an uninsured driver i got 35mpg in my little 1.2 lmao

  Skoda
In Jan my fuel bill on my 182 was £340.......... Got my DCI and my fuel bill so far this month...........£100..........similar mileage covered.........economical my arse!!! I get over 700 miles on a tank and costs the same if not cheaper than v power... All my driving is motorway so I still do the same speed as I did in the 182 70mph;)

  Golf R
if you want an economical car, buy a diesel..... if you want a fun car buy a 182. i bought my 182's knowing that i wouldn't be getting something which would be great in fuel!

out of curiousity i've been boring and found out what the best mpg i can get out of the car is, but generally my normal driving see's me getting somewhere round the 30mpg mark

  Clio 172 mk2
Best I've had is 47mpg out of my 172 which I thought was pretty good.

Back down to 37 now though.
