5.1 through Sony DAV-S550

DVD and 360 work fine using the optial lead, but i'm having problems with the rear speakers on normal tv channels/sky box. 2 RCAs (phono in/out) are giving wierd "underwater" noise from the rear speakers. Is this normal or is there a way round it?

Have you got it set to one of the "virtual surround" modes? That would possibly explain it.

yeah you'll only get a 2 ch stereo sound anyway. The S550 won't split the signal into 5.1, but even if its on a virtual surround mode, you shoudn;t get a watery sound. you may get an echo, depending on the sound field selected.

You cant get 5.1 sound off of a TV/Sky signal. You need to go through your mode selects and find a profile such as Virtual Surround/2 Channel/TV mode, or a mode that doesn't use the rears at all.

On mine I have some modes for TV use, which dumbs out voice signal from the rears but plays the rest in stereo.

Failing that have a butchers at the manual, or post on AV Forums.
