5 turbo transplant

  Trophy #473
Yep the questions up again, I would do a search but i know you guys/gals just love to post. Before we start Im 21 and have money to spare.

Those who know me and those who dont, Ive done all the work on my car myself and I fancy having a go at something different, A 5 turbo transplant into my 1.2 clio.

I enquired about this a few years ago and got loads of info from talking to AndyGDI at a RR meet that was held, since then Its always been in the back of my mind to get it done, but back then insurance quotes were silly and no NCD i had no chance.

Ive got my hands on an engine but it has no pipe work and no airbox, and probably other bits i havnt realsied yet, but im not worried about all that yet.
Im going to get the engine rebuilt, block and head, turbo etc and probably a few other tuning bits like cam and dump valve for example.

I remember being told id need a subframe from a night/day clio, hav'nt a clue what that is, but thats what i can remember. Apparently i need to weld on a gear box mount and i can use the other orriginal clio mounts, 16v drive shafts, and some other bits which im hoping someone will tell me.

I already have a KTR Big disk conversion so brakes are sorted.

Any information on how to do it myself will be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Nathan

Ps

No i havnt finished my lambo door conversion yet but here are the hinges...

its the engine mount from the night and day you need mate not the sub frame

yes you do need valver driveshafts

personally i wouldnt do it, if you do have an accident like i did, its pure hell with the insurance, i got offered £900 as a pay out at first

yeah i remember reading your thread after u had your accident.
even tho im still wanting to do it, once the engines in what else do i need, GTT clocks, fuel tank etc smallest details, the more the merryer. im making a list.

if ither of you live near stansted airport, or surrounding area you are more than welcome to go out for a spin in mine. its not a standard one, it has a few extras, but it will give you an idea. offer there if you fancy it.

If only you lived a bit further north LOL. I'm in Edinburgh so it's not really an option. I probably wouldn't be looking at the conversion for a while anyway due to insurance :( How does the inurance on a Clio gtt compare to say a standard valver?

off the line it stuffs um, and the odd williams too. well my local ones anyway. insurance wise isnt a problem, my policy went up 35.00 to cover an admin charge.

Insuarance depends on the company.
Best idea is to buy thr whole R5 GTT and swop the engine etc rarther than the bits you need.
IMO the big brakes conversion isn't much better than stock not if your looking to track day etc if you want better brakes you need new calipers.

you can keep your fuel tank, and pump unless you really up the power

the GTT clocks you will need if your using the GTT box

as edde has mentioned, make sure you sort the brakes, the ones on the 1.2's etc are piss poor and with a GTT engine under the bonnet you will end up in the first hedge you come to

i binned my 325mm big brake conversion for the 5 turbo setup, much much better. and if you buy a donor 5 turbo, you'll have them.
