Yep 53 reg was the cross over between the 172 & 182.

I've seen a couple of the 05 reg 172's (I think one is silver) they must have been sat for a fair bit un registered.

I've got a 04 172 and its looks like its got 182 seats in it. They certainly look different to older 172 seats.
