8v or 16v

Ive bought a 1999 T-reg mk 2 Clio and I am looking forward to picking it up on Saturday.:)

Im new to the world of Clios and I am wondering if the engine is 8 or 16 valve??

If someone could help me with this queery then I would be very greatfull.

Thanks again. :D

If its the standard base model its 8v 75 bhp. If its anything else eg Alize, etoile, si then its 16v 98bhp. Well thats what it says on parkers anyway.

Its just a 1.4RT - have to mak do with the 75bhp and the 8valves then!

Can you get any sort of induction kits for the 8valvers???? K&N 57i etc.

I think you should be able to! There are quite a few people on here with the 1.4 rt and they seem to have done a few mods.

I didnt think any mk2 was 8v? Thought they were all 16v whether it be 1.2 16v, 1.4 16v, 1.6 16v and 2.0 16v? Might be wrong though!

OK - this is how it goes with the Clio Mk2 range, but be warned - its confusing:

The Mk2, Phase 1 (i.e. 1998-2001) model Clios initially came with a choice of 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v, 1.9 non-turbo diesel and 1.6 16v engines. Trim was offred in RL, RN, RT and "16v" (a warm hatch - but not a Mk1 16v replacement) specs - much like the Mk1 Clio.

About half way through the life of the Phase 1, they then offered a 1.2 16v above the 1.2 8v (and kept this engine option), a 1.9 Turbo Diesel, the 2.0 16v 172 and a 1.4 16v replaced the 1.4 8v altogether. They also changed the name of the "16v" to the "RSi". At this point (late 1999/early 2000) the RT was deleted from the range and they offered trim levels in three categories: "Sport" (obvious - but not the RenaultSport 172), "Alize" (basic) and "Etoille" (luxury). Confusingly, not all trim levels were available on all cars. They also introduced the 1.9 TD at this time.

When the Mk2, Phase 2 came out (i.e. new shape from 2001), they offered "Dynamique" (sporty), "Expression" (basic) and "Privilege" (luxury). The engines available now were the 1.2 8v, 1.2 16v, 1.4 16v, 1.5 TD (65bhp), 1.5 TD (85bhp), 1.6 16v and 2.0 16v. The 1.9 TD was discontinued at this stage - replaced by the 1.5 TD (85bhp).
