90's BTCC FTW...

After seeing this on TG last night, I'm annoyed I was only a small child for a majority of the 90's :dapprove:

A good friends father drove the Datapost Fiestas and Escorts with great success back when it was open to all classes :)

BTCC was good but doesnt come anywhere near as awesome as Group B Rally,im not sure how old you are Chris but i was lucky enough to see these in the flesh racing and the sound was mindblowing.I think you needed to see it first hand to get an idea how amazing it was.

Group B super cars were awesome. I used to follow these big time :)

Gutted a was too young to remember most of these vids. Do remember the old Toca touring cars game on the ps1 back in the day

That is one of my personal regrets. I was old enough at the time to beg and grovel to my parents to take me to a Group B rally stage. I never did though. :(

Closest I've got is to see some of the lucky owners nail the old Audi Quattros and Metro 6R4s around the tight rally circuit at Oulton Park. Even though they sound and look awesome, that must look like a mere warm-up compared to when they were all-out blatting through forest stages, in their day.

OMG AWESOME POST!!!! :D :D :D

You've made me feel 15 again!! lol

I used to go to the BTCC meets back in the 90's and you're right - it's just not what it used to be!

I was always a fan of Patrick Watts, he was an awesome driver but never seemed to have any luck!!

Top marks for the post!! :p

There's a BTCC appreciation thread on Wheel *****s, they all love the sick camber and how low they are!

Fella loves touring cars from this decade, he grew up on Toca. Still watches the BTCC now but he says it's not the same, but it's still great racing.

great thread! used to love toca world touring cars the first one, legend of a game :D

love BTCC due to the 'contact' element, at a time when formula one was all becoming more safety conscious this was so much more exciting to watch.

can anyone remember which driver had the nickname "smokin joe"? I think it was something to due with his driving style lol

Touring is w**k now. I used to love it mid 90's used to always go with the old man to Oulton Park. Alfa's FTW!!!

LOL John Cleland was the best. Great competitor for a Scot! Loved the Vectra liveries and colours when they first came out.

And the special edition white one they did in about 97 - I realise now the spec is utter shat, think it barely had 150bhp, but back in the day I thought it flew :rasp:

Not just that motor though. The realms of mad bhp and on-the-limit-traction were clearly just too much for even the most talented drivers. Absolutely zero margin for error and death-wish spectators a few feet from the track, meant that its days were always numbered...

I'm still convinced that those Alfas were the ones that got me 'into' black alloys, Gaz!

Where did it all go wrong then ?

Cars got power hungry then ?

Yup. Such a shame really.
