About £200 ish form Renault - wouldnt recommend doing it yourself unless you know what your doing.

Probably better going to renault as they replace tensioners etc aswell and know what thyere doing but you do pay a premium

glasgow, obviously the car is immovable without a trailor so would need to be kinda close by

Has it already snapped?

If so you may be looking at a lot more work than just replacing the belt

Alot more...........first step, search for a new engine!!!!

£200 from Hill Power for just the belt.

Goes up obviously if you change the tensioners etc.. can't remember how much it is with them! (Probably worth getting them done if they havn't been, though)

If it's snapped though, £200 isn't the figure you'll be looking at (probably..) unless you are VERY VERY lucky.

my mate's astra sxi has just had the belt slip and he needed 16 vlaves, 8 inlet valves, new belt and new cam head :O Was quoted £1750 from vauxhall!!

Bullshit!!!!!

I've know engines that the belt has gone and they ahve been fine, others have endfed up with 16 bent valves.

if you can do the work yourself fix it, if not a valver engine can be picked up for a couple of hundred quid.

Cambelt is 10 times easier to do with the engine out of the car

well, it snapped at idle is there anyway of telling the engine is alright without taking it to bits?

cheers for the info so far guys

Not really, most likley is valves hit pistons and a few if any are bent, really have to have it in pieces to tell.

If it was at idle you'll prolly bhe lucky and get away with a few bent valves if that

I would agree with dan that you should go to Chris H on retro-renault.co.uk as your in Glasgow - really knows his renaults well and will probably do any work for a good price.
