A 16V turbo

  Full Fat 182 - Was..

Right then, opinions and fact please... constructive opinions and facts that is, if you don’t like what is written then don’t comment just go read a different thread.

I have a little project in mind, i have the opportunity of getting a 1.8 16V clio very cheap. I m also thinking of building a high powered track car for track days and the such etc.

So, how does a 1.8 16V sound with a BB tuning turbo kit and engine mods sound and a nice new paint job.

Is there any real mods that the car should have / should need?

Does anyone on here already have a turbo valver??

What sort of performance / power can i expect from a turbo valver???

Answers and suggestions please

I considered a bb tuning turbo converstion. There clio is 264bhp:D. The converstion comes with everything you need. ecu and uprated cams and other engine parts.;) Do It!! You know you wanna

cheers, yeah a 2l would be nice but that costs money, this 1.8 is a new engine so its a freebie and is just pleading to be modded

erm no nick has a 1.8 turbo

and turbomans was a 1.8 as well which he has now sold

IIRC the 1.8 the better route for turboing due to the crank being stronger...the need for 2ltr also goes away as its forced induction so youll be gaining sh*tloads of torque/bhp anyway. As for what else the car would require, BB did seem to have an otherwise std car that theyd turbod without problems. Going by their previous website all they did to it (other than fit the basic turbo kit) was fit lowering springs, uprated brakes and new clutch before sending it out...

I think now the problems have been acknowledged and sorted but in the begining there were some issues that kept coming back.

Still to deal with is the standard clutch - wont take it. Standard gearbox wont last long. New brakes will be needed. Fuel pump wont last very long.

When BB took their low pressure turbo they got 229 bhp and Nick got about 220 bhp on his high pressure one. Its all a bit hit and miss. Nicks made more torque though.

It is true that the 1.8 is better for a turbo conversion over the 2.0 due the the crank being stronger or something. (1.8 revs higher as well)

Have you looked into prices - this is not a cheap conversion by any means. I would have liked it but opted to go for a car thats already turbo!

The fastest valver in the UK is a 434bhp clio in wales done by bbpt. bbpt high pressure conversion will take you to in excess of 300bhp, and then upto 434bhp with custom transmission. when it reaches that 434bhp still it isnt the engine slowing the car down it is the transmission. the 1.8 is the better engine to do it on by a long way. if you are increasing an engines capacity you should always do it by boring rather than stroke if possible so really the 1764 is better than the williams in respect of strength and reliabilty.

The low pressure conversion is plenty fast enough and they usually run their clio between 200-230bhp everyday with no troubles. and even the low pressure conversion will beat an evo6 on 100-140mph which is incredible. If you could get £6000 out for a k-tec straight cut box for an r5 and slap that in and adjust the ratios, custom carbon driveshfts and so on I bet you could even get 500bhp out of a valver with obviously mental torque too. the fastest fwd car in the uk is supposed to be turbo technics maestro - about time we sorted that out me thinks!

Just incase anybody thinks that the valver engine couldnt handle that power should speak to bbpt as they will tell you otherwise - the engine is so similar to say that of an escort cosworth that they use the same turbo and general similar technicalities and Im sure you all know that you can easily get 400bhp from a cossie.

hope this helps

Is it MAXIBOYs? He got a Willy box strengthened with different ratios I think.

434bhp!!!.......Wotta monster thats gotta be!!!

Id quite like to turbo mine but at 5k its a lot of money to spend on a Valver for the average person!!!

Unless your an hardcore modder it makes so much more sense to put that doller to an Rx7/Cossie/Scoob etc imo!!!

yeah but I have got a pulsar and it would much prefer to have a mental 434bhp clio if I could afford it. light front wheel drive - then you can say the fastest front wheel drive car whereas there are loads of rx7s,etc and everyone expects them to be fast dont they. its all about a wolf in sheeps clothing. like the 205 mi16 on t/b stripped out that batters a 400bhp gto and 300bhp sti down nottingham circuit - joker!

i think the fastes fwd car in the uk is Sunnys from fiestaturbo.com, hes got a 550bhp fiesta rs turbo, proven 178mph over a 1.25m strip at Brunters, the ford boys take some catching!!
