A 5k Monaro.

It's not an actual Monaro is it? Isn't it one of those Pontiac GTO things? (which the Monaro is) but iirc it's not a UK car etc, and it's an early one which never goes for much money imo.
Had it have been the 6.0 one it would have been a complete steal.

Looks like an early 5.7 litre Monaro to me, what do you mean?

Its RHD too, although they have stuck a Holden badge on it by the looks of it so is that what you mean?

I've seen a lot of people put the Holden badges on instead of vauxhall, this guys gone and put thundercat badges on.

Ah right yes that's what I mean.. the Thunder Cat badges threw me, so I thought it was an imported Holden etc.
They're a Pontiac GTO in the US, but yeah they're LHD.

I'm really not clued up on them, Craig! Just seen it on PH's FB page lol
No probs bro, I got a little confused myself :dapprove:

Ye this is the lower spec monaro they first sold with around 335 hp I think and they had the 5.7 vxr version with 380 circa hp. Then they did the same in 2005 with the monaro cv8 which had the bonnet scoop and 5.7 v8 this time with 350 hp. The vxr version in 2005 used the 6.0 v8 with 400hp ish. My dad had the 05 cv8 fantastic cars he used it as his daily work horse and did 100,000 miles in it. All you need to do is get a remap and a wortec exhaust they sound amazing. He's now got the vxr8 hopefully in around 3 years time I'll have my own

Very tunable. I featured a 1017bhp one on the front cover of total vauxhall a few years ago.
Wasnt a terrible day out at brands with it.

Why is its 0-60 6 seconds? Dont get me wrong im not saying this car is all about balls out speed but Id have expected something better than that!

They are heavy and the early ones dont have a lot of power, also they arent massively great 0-10 no matter how much power they have as they just dont have the rear end grip to move that weight quickly (unless you start putting funky tyres on them on a drag strip etc) so that makes the 60 figure look worse than the acceleration once you are rolling actually feels.

The old ones are not quick at all. I sure as hell wouldn't want to fuel one vs performance.

Sorry auto correct screwing me over their I meant monkfish. Ye I remember reading that article afew gears ago that's pretty cool I take it you worked for the mag. He spent a lot of money on that car.

I wouldn't exactly call them slow the torque was impressive obviously they had issues with fast launches because they struggled with traction but my dad's had a remap and exhaust system giving it around 390hp which definitely shifted

Yes mate Ive worked as a freelance motoring journalist for about 10 years now, although its quite rare for them to use me for a feature car, but cause it was such a techy based feature they gave it to me, normally I write about mapping or engine building or stuff like that. (tbh Im too expensive, lol)
Did make for a nice change though, its deffo in my top 5 favourite ever articles to have been asked to write!

The early standard ones arent much quicker than a standard 172, still not "slow" but considering its a v8 and nearly 6 litres etc I can really see the point he is making that they are slower than they should be, lol.
