a big slice of humble pie

I bought my mk1 172 8 months ago and for that length of time it has always pulled to the right when accelerating. Ive had a back to the garage many times to cure this, its had the suspension laser aligned, bushes checked etc. But to no avail.

2 weeks ago i smashed into a fox which destroyed my grill and bent the aircon condenser. When i took it in for it;s monthly visit to cure the pulling on the steering, i was told that the fox may have bent the steering on its way through so i would have to have the suspension checked again. The dispair i felt at my nice little monster just not living up to my expectations was starting to get to me.

Well today i decided to change the front tyres in time for winter, Nice new Michelin exaltos were fitted and can this be true the car goes in a straight line when accelerating. 8 bloody months after buying the car and now it behaves as it should. The tyre technician said the fronts looked as if they had been replaced seperately and due to the different rates of wear this would have caused my problem.

The phone call to renault was a little choice to say the least, but at last i can start enjoying the car. After successfully missing the whole summer i can hardly wait for greasy winter roads through the scottish borders. great:cry:

i hope they do as twice a week i drive up the st andrews from newcastle up the through the borders and as of yet havent really got my foot down, though in my last car i did it in 2hours 15 and that was a rover 200 tdso hopefully in this i should do a lot better

funny things them tyres. since i had new goodyear nct5s all round on my 16v its always pulled to the left slightly when driving about. well i did a coolant flush so removed the two front wheels and i think i may have put them on the opposite sides when reffitting as it now pulls to the right instead??? the wheels are balanced properly so dont know whats going on there.
