Gave the 197 a quick once over this afternoon.

Two buckets, with sponge and lots of suds... i'll burn in hell i know. Just don't get on with those mitt things.

even used a special sponge to help get rid of the bugs.... used clay and a quick detailer all over to clean up the paintwork.

used SRP for a once over then collinites 467S or whatever it is for a protective coat.

Some pics:

The wheels were total filth... even after a good old scrub i have this:

Now, should i just clay these or do i need something specific to sort them out?

I wouldn't use wonder wheels unless you had exhausted every other cleaning posibility. It is very acidic and will dull the finish on the wheels at best, at worst it will damage the laquer and will cause it to bubble up.

What about arches and tyres? Give them a good scrub and then dress. Will look alot better.

Car does look good though. Collinites good for a couple of months at least!

APC or bilberry for the wheels. It's a wheel off job to do it properly. Calipers look tatty too! Apart from that V nice. really like that colourj after seein it on the R27

Daisy APC from Tesco is about 75P for 1.5L - works really well on wheels and arches - a shrewd investment.

Sponge is fine too if you have rinsed the car well and its not too dirty

I use a Zymol sponge without issues.

yeah i like collinites as it lasts well but my god, it is rubbish when putting it on and off... anything easier for 90% of the end result? would be tempted by a rotary just to quikcen the buffing procedure.

yeah don't have any tyre stuff at present plus i kinda just gave them a scrub as i knew they'd be fucked so couldn't be arsed...

tbh, the wheels haven't been cleaned with much love for sometime so hence they look a wee bit messy. how would i tidy up the calipers too?

|On the 182 i used HEAVILY diluted hydrochloric acid brushed onto the wheels. left for like 30 seconds then just washed off with normal sponge and soap. tempted to give that a go tbh. used to come up sooooo well too.

i'll check out the APC or bilberry too (is APC an appreviation like SRP?)

Overall, happy with the bodywork, got a few minor scratches from trees etc and some mong who dragged their keys along my bodywork so not too bad.

Probably need to refurb two wheels too as i clipped a kerb a few weks ago being the mong that i am :( but yeah, 20k done on the 197...

APC - All purpose cleaner. Can get it from Aldi. Strength dependant of dilution.

Got my jack so i can take them off.

People still recommending SRP or some general cleaner?

then a coat of my wax to help preserve them?

On a side note, i washed my car last week and you could tell the wax is doingit's job as the water was kinda runnig off it in a waxy way.

but it wasn't as shiny as the pics on the first post.

can i put another coat of SRP or do i need to go to the base again?

spray the wheels in alloy cleaner but leave to soak clean your calipers aswell with alloy cleaner as alot of brake dust will be in them

Use Meguires APC i got mine from Cleanyourcar...... rate it highly, may need a wheel brush to adgitate (sp). If that didnt shift it, i've used Fairy powerspray, trust me it woks!!!!;) Wouldnt use it everydaylol, once a year will suffice, but used it on my 197 alloys, and various other down the years with no problems. The calipers wont come up much better i'm affraid. The non Cup Brembos are cast finished with no paint. The Brake dust etches into the finish i found :(. I painted mine red, piece of piss to clean now.

  Shed.
try srp, and leave a coat of it on for a while, see if it disolves it in any way.

try clay ?

Then try wonder wheels, but once used make sure the wheels are washed thoroughly, and then i strongly reccomend you spend some time coating them in super resin polish, and then sealing them with extra gloss protection.

Looks very shiney.

I can't get my wheels to clean up properly either, the finish on them is crap too so nothing really seems to help :(

What are the issues with it - which bits not coming properly clean ?

No benifit to using SRP and leaving it one, if it is not removing anything while you work it then step up to something stronger.

Yes Mikey I've tried Wonder Wheels. Only once though because I've heard it's strong.

Rich, the finish is just really dull, but there's areas of dirt in the hard to reach places which won't budge, I think I'll just get them refurbed and start again! Even if I sort the dirt problem out, the finish on them is still pap.

In the areas that are hard to get, try some wonder wheels on a small brush.

Once done try a couple of applications of Super Resin Polish it should start to bring up a decent gloss to them.

SEb, APC from aldi, forget the polish and use PB wheel seal. I'm sure that'll do...If not...Then yeh, polish will be needed...Clays pisch on wheels imo.
