A fun days work!

  Ultra Red Clio 197
hi,

Just spend today and yesterday sorting out my Clios rear drums and Callipers. Painted the drums smooth silver and the callipers red and put a "Renault" decal on them! (see pictures below)...

I also gave the alloys a very good clean while they were off the car! and put new mud flaps on! Cant believe it took so long, but im happy with the end result!

What are your opinions? If you have any questions about the process or what products I used just ask.. ;)

In the first picture you will see the brake disc which is slightly rusty.. I have left it like this, but wondered if anyone can recommend anyway to get rid of this and get it looking nice and shiny!

Cheers
Ross

Lose the stickers and IMO the drums should have been black.

Why do you want to attract attention to drums? :S

You do look to have done a good job though.

I used "die cut" Decals which are sealed on using clear high temp laquer. Haven't decided whether or not to keep them, might just paint over them.

Havent put any pics of the rear drums on here, but they really dont draw attention to themselves being silver. In fact if they were black you would see them more.

Thank you.. It turned out to look and be more sucessful that I thought it would be! lol... I had my doubts when a shower of heavy rain came at one stage and the car was jacked up! lol..

cheers,

Can anyone recommend a way to get rid if that awful rust on the brake disc? It lets my hard work down.. I thought of using that black coloured wet paper or sand paper and just rub it down! is this a good idea or not? thought I better ask before I make a mess of it!!

How did you fit the decal then mate?

Doesn't just stick on?

Do you mean on the surface of the disc or another part?

Well if you look at the first picture, you can see the rust on the disc. the surface which the brake pad touches is silver, but the other parts are rusty.

yeah, the decals are roughly 5mm in length i think. Got them made by a guy on eBay for £5.. bit expensive for what they are, but never mind! After letting the red paint dry I simply just stuck them on. But in order to ensure that when washing they dont come off, I covered them in Hycote High temp Clear Laquer paint.. just like clear varnish but suitable for high temperatures. Let that dry and put about another 3 coats of it on.. they dont look like stickers anymore.

Has anyone else tried this before? What are your overall opinions of how it looks? should I keep them or get rid of them?? :S

Porsche do this as standard on most of their car calipers! (see pic below) thats where I got my inspiration! Its my way of having a little bit of porsche design on my car, as I until I have saved enough pennies to buy myself one! lol..
