ABS question

Had a search but couldnt find anything - Probably a really daft question thats why :)

If you remove the ABS and fit a new master cylinder from a cup etc, what happens with regards to your speedo? Will it still work?

As i need a new gearbox, and want to know if i would need to buy a cup one instead?

Thanks :)

Depends if your car currently gets its speed reading from the back of the gearbox, or the ABS system...

Check on the back of the box and see if you have a speedo sensor plugged in, near the exhaust manifold... Seems Renault were pretty random when fitting the 172 Ph2s out with the types of Speedo

Yours must be ABS based then :(

It could be entirely possible to fit a Cup box, along with the speedo sensor - and then get the wire that usually goes to the ABS system for the speed reading and put it onto the speedo sensor instead. I dont see why Renault would change the fomat of the signal, so it could theoretically work... Dont quote me on that though lol!

If the abs ring is still on the hub with the sensors, your speedo should still work.
My abs doesn't work since I changed the calipers, but the speedo is fine.

Fred has a decent spare box lying around by the way.
