Adding Cruise Control to a 172?

  Clio 172 PH2 (Y Reg)
Hi

Hopefully some1 will be able to help me?

I was wondering if I wanted to add Cruise Control (CC), to my 2001 Clio 172 PH2 which didnt come fitted with CC?

Also is it simply plug and play I.E is all the cruise control wires eg already included in the wiring loom?

If so what would I need to buy to install it, e.g stearing wheel etc....

Cheers

I was told by a Renault tech that it couldn't be done, wiring etc would be too hard.

i added this to my old vectra and all i had to get were, the control box, cables for throttle body, and switches but if i'm correct the clio ph2 has fly by wire, so i presume if the wires are there you'll only need switches and controll box

i would have thought renault could tell you if the wires will be there

For all intents and purposes it can't be done, you'd need a complete new dash look, the wheel switches and associated loom, later new ecu and later new uch to add the cruise functions.

Its easy to retrofit things to VAG stuff, most of the time you just fit the part as the loom is already there and enable the function with VAGCOM.

It can be done but for the work its not worth it

retro fitting none renault setups can be done but its not realy IMO worth it

as got VAG cars they cna have itdone cheap as the ay there wired

It can be done and not diffult. You would onlye need to check if the car has the harness and make a test to see if the ecu has this function. If you do have is simple, just buy the switch, however, you would need to buy a wheel with the cruise buttons on it which may be the toughest part (expensive)

But all in all, it can be a plug and play fit.

Just need the steering wheel or buttons. And yes, if you see the "set---" is because the function is enabled. One more thing, check if you have the clutch contactor needed to disable the system whenever cluthc is activated.

If anyone wants to test if this can be done at your cars do this.

1. pull out the cap, behind look for a white connector plug
2. Start the cars engine or open the ignition
3. make a test by making a "bridge" from the green cable to the yellow one, this will turn cruise on, you should see the "set---" in the speedo display and the green cruise light on.

If the previos make no change or you do not have the connector then this may not be that simple, but it seems some 172 have all the installation there, as if this was an easy fit option for dealers. To me, this means everything is in place and that the ECU also has the functionality enabled.

Oh, and finaly, you will need the clutch contactor or you would need to trick the actual one. This is expensive I believe.

how would ya find clutch contactor lol but can't find a steering wheel with the buttons on anywhere

Contactor at the stealers, steering wheel... wait for one to show on ebay, they are stupid expensive at dealers!!!!

For clutch contactor there is a trick you can do with the actual one on your car, but you will have to turn it off before using the clutch or the car will accelerate crazy!!!

I hava a how to guide from a forum in Mexico but is in spanish!!!

UCH neede enabling as for the loom it is a different part number between the looms

No, it does not! we've done this before and it works. A mate even made him self a button for the clutch, and it worked great. Buttons were aweful but worked.
