Probably one for the specialists that contribute to this forum but any input is appreciated.
A friend has recently bought a 182 and after driving it it seemed a little lacking in performance compared to mine.
The belts and tensioners were done just before he bought it. The garage seem to have fitted all new tensioner and idler pulleys. Have checked the cam timing this evening with the proper Renault tools and it is out.
My question concerns re-doing the timing. When doing a belt change it is advised to remove the pulleys and clean them with brake cleaner. If I just want to re-adjust the timing is this still reccommended? I know when I remove the sealing cap on the de-phaser i can expect there to be some oil there which I can catch with a rag but is there a risk of getting oil between the shafts and the pulleys and creating a problem?
Many thanks in advance.
