Advice of rust proofing, protection for a Clio 172

Car  Clio 172
Hi,

I'd be grateful for any advice of rust proofing and protection for a Clio 172. I've read about Waxoyl, Lanoguard etc and wanted to know whether a single process or multiple processes works best. Also, whether anyone knows of a good garage with experience of doing the work..

Thanks.

If your going to do it, I would do it right. I've previously done my own 4x4's etc. Struggle to find companies doing it properly nowadays as no one is willing to pay for all the prep as there is guys out there throwing some underseal on for £250. Proper job on a decent sized motor your looking at £1000. Obviously alot less to it on the clio's though

Thoroughly wash underneath and allow to dry, ideally a day or two.
Remove any loose rust or existing flaking coatings with wire brush or similar drill / grinder attachments
Apply a rust converter / encapsulator. This step can be skipped if you choose a product that has built in rust converter but for heavy rust I prefer to go belt & braces and use both
Apply underseal of choice, ideally a few coats. Hardest & most time consuming part is the prep so once this is done its easy to re-coat. I usually leave a good 12 hours after initial heavy coat and then do at least 1 or two top up's before putting car back on the road

I'v used Dinitrol & Buzzweld products in the past. Buzzweld, I used their Chassis in one which has high rust encapsulator content

I've done both ice blasting and treatment on my 172. For the treatment, they used Dinitrol RC900 + 4010 Clear and it took about 2-3 days. However, I have two rust spots that I have to deal with now, just behind the sills on both sides. I am not sure if at the time of treatment it had decayed enough to be noticed but I can push my finger through now so that will need sorting.

One other point for clios is don't forget the interior.
Remove the rear door cards and you can clean out / treat the rear quarters as they can rot from the inside out. I scraped off all the loose rust, hoovered it out as its awkward for access and then sprayed the s**t out of it with Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 wax. Chose this over underseal as it stays wet and creeps and I wasn't needing a tough wearing underseal like you would for arches / underbody

Bilt Hamber do some good products aswell, forgot to mention them in my earlier post
