Advice on waxing please...

  BMW M5 & E36
Never really tried any wax on any of my cars before, but seeing pics on here of various cars makes me want to try some to get a bit more of a shine.

I have an Arctic 182 and don't fancy spending a fortune. Currently tend to use a combination of AG Shampoo/Gold Class, AG SRP then AG EGP if it makes a difference to which product at all.

Is it the same basic process as polishing; ie apply, leave to dry to a haze then buff off? What apllicators and bits are recommended?

N00b questions I know, sorry.

Chris :)

I like dipping my fingers in and having a good smear about.... with the collinte that is! I just apply by hand now, no risk of dropping your hands on a dirty floor and I'd be surprised if my skin scratched the body work.

  Shed.
Another vote for the AG SRP and EGP topped with R222/P21s or Victoria Concours.

Autoglym Super resin polish, Autoglym extra Gloss protection (if you want to) and finally a wax of your choice........

What is your budget?

Im at the point where ive realised that all waxes look the same to passers by and theres only me who notices it, which is why i wont spend loads on car products anymore.

Personally i wouldnt bother with EGP as it needs to be left for 24 hours before applying another coat, or a coat of wax.

Start with AG SRP from halfords and then use a wax.

Cheap and durable waxes which i would definately use/have used:

£15 Collinite 476s (using it at the moment and i love it - very durable and yes the finish is also very good.)

£12 Meguairs #16 Paste Wax (cannot be layered iirc and ive never used it but the durability is ment to be fantastic)

Stretch Your Budget A little perhaps?

£40 Swissvax onyx (Swissvax finishes are ment to be fantastic but ive never used this, would definately give it a try though)

£30 Chem Guys 50/50 wax (would definately use this and i think itl be my next choice of wax)

Thanks for the replies, R222 will probably be the one as it seems reasonably priced and a few have mentioned it.

I know what AG SRP and EGP are; I mentioned them in the first post!

Still open to suggestions if anyone else has ideas.

Hi Chris:D

I used victoria concourse on my Monaco Blue 172. Awesome product IMO. Waxed it last July after a good clay/pc polish/seal and it was still beading nicely after every wash up until I sold it a couple of weeks back!!!

Around £18 from tim @ cleanyourcar.co.uk

Apply with the german applicators or the round yellow megs foam applicators.
Or hand as I did on part of the car, just dont put too much on.

Loving the Vics on mine at the moment, Onyx just has the edge I think though.

For the money though Vics Concours hands down.
