Advice please on vibrations through pedals after cambelt/camshaft change

  ph1 titanium 172
Hi guys,

So finally got my mk1 172 back, along with a new camshaft, cambelt kit, aux belt kit etc...

Anyway it runs really nice now, timing seems spot on, but, and there's always a but with french cars, I am getting a whole load of vibration through the pedals now, particularly when car is cold, i'm also getting cluth judder when pulling off on an incline etc.

I didnt get any of this before, I spoke to the mechanic who did the job and he explained that he jacked the engine up on the left hand side to do the belts etc, and he only took the engine mount off from the left hand side of the engine (near the oil cap etc). I did ask him if it might be gearbox mount or the mount under the battery but he said they have not been touched ?? So any ideas what this might be ? The only other thing I reckon it could be is the cat or the downpipe from exhaust manifold sending the vibrations through the footwell etc...

Please help

he reckons he used the proper renault tool for the timing, and performance seems spot on, he reckons he lined up the mount with the marks on the washers etc. to ensure it was mounted back in the same place as before...

mines was slighly different too i think its the strain put on the other mounts when jacking the engine right up and down i wouldnt worry about it to be honest.

ok thanks for all the advice guys, particularly thanks to clio_luke and 182ben

sorted the problem by unbolting the 4 bolts around the drivers side engine mount, yanking the engine forward (it moved about 1/2 inch), and then re-tightening all bolts.

It transformed the car lol, can't believe how such a little movement, can change how the car feels. It's fantastic again now... no more vibrations through the pedals, and at the same time i fixed my 5 year old passenger door panel vibration with a stealth insertion of cardboard :)
