Aftermarket Alternator

Ok, i need an uprated alternator. 70Amps just wont cut the mustard, when i intend to have over 1kwRMS soon.
Who has gone about fitting an uprated alternator to a mk 2????
Where did you get it from?

I've searched quite a bit, but it's hard........
Custom mounting not really doing it for me i'm afraid ;)

The time has come. I now have 1.5kwrms. Lights go out.... forget dimming...
So does anyone have any suggestions of how to go about getting an uprated one. If new mounting systems and belts are needed then so be it!!!
I found a company that will do 130amp upgrade for £200 but thats a scam! I'm not bothered if it costs £300 i just need a good 150-200 amps!!!!

erm pass, i would imagine you're going to have to go custom, what does a 172 or dci alternator whack out?

or can you not plug the car into the mains?

you'll have to replace all the power cables in the engine bay i would think, 200amps down the stock line = fire

im no expert, but my understanding is electrical components only consume as many amps as requried

ie, it dont matter if you have an 100000amp power source, a 5 amp bulb will still only draw 5 amps?


or am i wrong?

Yes you are indeed correct and i've uprated all the underbonnet wiring thats needed. Thats from alt to battery chassis to block and battery to chassis.
They're all in 0guage (50mm^2) So no problem of 300 amps down them!

Can anyone name a rewiring specialist. I googled for a few times and can't find much!


I read in trusty haynes that they do a 105amp alt for the clio mk2 ph 2... god knows what on though. Google is pants at specialism!
That would pass me by for a bit. So if anyone knows anything about those that would be great too!

Ok when i compete it draws 1117W RMS ( allow for no amplification losses as it's class D) divide that through by 14.4 = 78Amps. But whe i run my front end as well class a and class ab. We are easy onto 1500watts on music! Thus making 104 amps. I will next year (march time) have another 1117w RMS amp in. So then that makes it a bare min (on burping) of 155Amps. But when fronts running to peaks of upto 180Amps! Then later next year I'll have new amps which i'm aiming at 2x 2kw if not a single 3kw amp. So 200amps need then really!!! + Batts!

Indeed. But as that would need new bracketry, i could just bang on any old 200amp one for that! Without adding additional resistance to my already straining 1.2 engine.
