air bag suspension

  Bmw M4 & Clio 16v
Has anyone on the forum had air bags fitted to their clio yet? I was interested to see what was done and what they think?

As not sure how you would get the height on the back to change as the torsion bar fixes the rear axel ridgid.

airbags = expensive pap IMO. If you are a driver then dont bother if however you are a "cuizer" and prefer to moisten the gusset of many a 14year old chav car sl*g and earn the respect of the maccys carpark massive then go for it.

In short they will cost a fortune the ride wont be as good as a conventional spring/strut combo and the handling wont be either. The car will be all show no go. If you just want to dump it on its sills and dont actually want to use it for its primary design (driving it) then fair enough but there are too many compramises IMO. As for the torsion bar question i would imagine they would remove the inner splined shaft and use it as a swinging arm as and fit the aribag unit upright at the end nearest the hub and use this to control ride height but not having seen what space is available i have no idea what they would do or how much fabrication would be involved. Just fit coilovers or sports springs/struts instead and save yourself a ballache.

One of the companies i am working with are looking at becoming an air supplier for the UK. We are trying to get some details at the moment. just trying to build a truely custom clio 16v. will have lots of poke but never intend using it!

  BMW 330d :)
I dont see the point in doing huge amounts of mods which add up to more than the car is worth. Its still a clio at the end of the day. Buy a 350Z or something with the cash your going to blow on a clio.
