Air feed: Behind the NS wheel arch: WHAT?

  Clio 197
I removed my wheel arch to find:

An elaborate contraption, with wires going into it, and little rubber hoses...

What on earth is this? :S

(deffo an air-feed, but a strange one tho...)

its this accoustic valve... i think its there to mainly remove the induction noise? i've ripped mine out to make way for a cold air feed to the fog light, if taking this unit out, the vac pipe needs blocking off....

Accoustic valve iirc. Restricts the airflow by means of a butterfly valve, actuated by crankcase vacuum or revs or something. lol. Supposed to reduce induction noise and increases torque lower in the rev range.

I don't know much more about it, but people tell you to just get rid. The instructions that came with my IK explained how to take it out.

Oh I see... thanks chaps.

So I would need to RR my car before and after to see the difference?!

Hehe... wanted to remove it, but unsure as to what I'll achieve.

It's not called a "silencer" on the parts computer is it?

Whip it out Oms. It supposedly cuts out induction noise and somehow maximises torque between about 2.5 and 4.5k. I can't quite see how it would be beneficial being closed at all other speeds.
