Airbag nightmare

My girlfriend drives a 52 plate Dynamique (Sp?!) and whilst driving, her driver-side seat airbag went-off. Has anybody else heard of/had this problem?!

Having phoned our local garage and as expected they are unwilling to do anything about it.

Need some advice before I phone Renault Uk and give them a rollocking as its scared her to death and doesnt want to drive the car anymore.

That aside, iv heard conflicting stories from Renault and a mate who says they'll have to replace all the airbags and renault even mentioned writting the car off!

IIRC they have to replace the computer (like the trigger unit) but I'm sure they would only have to the airbag that went off. anyone confirm that?

If it went off for no reason, surely hey should replace it. could have caused injury if it wasnt the seat airbag.

I could understand why she would not want to drive the car, i dont think i would

Its happened before Renault UK I think paid out in the end its a problem as the sensors are quite delicate so a stone knock in the wrong place can se them off.
they won't have to replace all the airbags or write the car off. They will only write a car off if there a huge majour problem and all the bags went off and even then its a close call as new airbgas and computer woulnd't come to the list price.
If the airbags gone off as it should have then you'll need to have the airbag computer replaced if its gone off and the airbags computer didn't set it off then you'll just have to have the airbags changed.
Its not going to be cheap for Renault to do it as a new computer is £300 depending on spec etc a new airbags £250 then replacing all the seat lining and posibly the pretentioner etc the bill can soon add up. if you have to pay out yourself (not that you should) but you could do it for less with a replacment seat and a renault specialist replacing the computer.
