alarm doesnt work

Ive recently bought a Clio 172, and the alarm that is fitted doesnt seem to work properly. its a standard alarm system thats fitted. when i lock the car the alarm never seems to work :S its only seems to beep every so often.....
Any solutions???

How do you switch the alarm on /off?

Are you sure its a UK spec car?

The alarm only goes off if its being broken into.

its the thatchem approved alarm not sure if it was an extra or something. yes its a uk spec . and when i 1st got it it used to beep when it was locked and the alarm would go off if i unlocked it manually as it should but now it doesnt do anything asif its not bein activated when locked via central locking

Is the light flashing in the car when you lock it?

if you leave the window open and try climb in (ie attempted break in) does it set the alarm off?

the hazzaard lights flash once when unlocked and twice when locked. And no it doesnt go off but it used to when the alarm occasionaly activated back in the day lol
