alert***bonnet catch***alert

  172 coming soon
Never heard of any problems with them, and both of my Clios (Both 2000 model) seem to be doing their job.. Checked 1 of them out of curiosity a couple weeks ago, as the work van (dont worry, its a vauxhall lol) has a loose catch, and mine seems to be fine and dandy..

Id say it was just some sad old bint with too much time on her hands, and a rejected insurance claim due to "fault of mantenance", therefore not applicable for a claim..

i do feel inclined to agree...regular maintenance should prevent this problem...however i was surprised renault used plastic catches...a bit dodgy imo.

Yeah, seems a bit dodgy alright, considering its holding a "wind-catcher" down at speeds of up to 70mph (suposedly lol).

unless ya ever notice 1 loose tho, ya would never think to check it, and i doubt even Renault would if ya left the motor in for a full service :S

It happened to someone I work with. He's got a mk2 ph1

The bonnet flew back and smashed the windscreen. Don't think he reported it. He bought a new catch and a carbon bonnet fitted and then put in them bonnet pins

  Turbos.
This has been talked about on here and there was a link to the thread you have posted.

A couple of people came out of the woodwork saying they have had the problem.

  Octavia VRS
It happened to Jonaldinho off here too. Never had any problems with mine...touch wood and always check the bonnet is closed if I have had to open it.

There were a couple of posts about this a week ago but thanks for coming on with that link :)

Yeah I saw this on Watchdog last week/week before they say that its on Clio's from 1998 - 2001. Its becuase the bonnet catch is made to cheaply and is plastic.

The MK3 clio catch is metal and is fine.
