Everybody is just trying to wind you up. Don't take anything seriously... Unless you're a ANIMAL of course.

You'll find that the cars in South Wales are certainly not the best!

This! I have probably been to see about 5 or 6 cars in South Wales over the years and every one has been a shed. The last time I went to see one I vowed I would never bother going to look at any cars in South Wales again. Lol

I live in Essex... all the best cars (and houses!) are in Kent. Which is really annoying as they always show up in searches.

  Petrol Blue 182.
I travelled 550 miles for my car! and unless you work 7 days a week, there's always the weekend to look at a car ;)

I'm not against travelling if there's a good chance its going to be what you are after but often this isnt the case.. Has anyone put a vehicle Q and A together? Im thinking of when you are in contact with the seller, to make sure you ask all the relevant questions prior to travelling to view?
Might be an idea to start one off? I won't start that thread though as Ive started enough this week :)

If a car is far away, does anyone try to use that as a bargaining tool and get additional monies off the car?

If I'm goin buy a car that's far away I always have really good intentions of getting the train then if it's mint I can drive it back but if it's rough I can just get the train back
in reality after spending hours on the train I'm just happy it's got 4 wheels a seat and a steering wheel and end up buying some right piece of s**t

Every car seems miles away to me being on the Isle of Wight! Costs £50 average just to get off with your car!!

  53 Clio's & counting
It is definately worth travelling for the right car - A days travel for what could be a long term car is fine, but you need to have your wits about you and ask the seller the right questions - get pictures sent over if needs be, and make sure you get a realistic idea of what the car will be before you go.

If you think like that IMO you won't be disappointed when you make the long trip to view

No offence mate but your post strikes me as a bit odd, almost like the comments of a very young driver. It's like the basics of any questions you'd ask when buying any car second hand - what's it's service history, has it ever been in an accident, what's the general condition, tax, MOT, tyres etc etc.

My confusion comes from the fact that you often post about having (had?) multiple cars, and your profile states you currently run a Kangoo, a BMW Z4 as well as an Audi TT not to mention a GTO (although whether it's a Pontiac / Ferrari 599 / Mitsubishi / Ferrari 250 is unknown). If you own all those cars how can you not know what to ask when looking to buy a crappy £5k French hatch???

It's a thread for everyone not just myself.. Most the cars I have bought have tended to be on a whim which I am trying to stop myself from doing in the future before my wife kills me.. Like I said recently I travelled a couple of hundred miles to look at a connect sport and had I asked more questions before travelling I would of saved myself a journey..
I'm sure everyone can learn from the knowledge of other people and now I have a list I feel better prepared.

As for the Trophy, had I not done a little research I could of bought one on the strength of it having a trophy sticker and driving well with service history.. not knowing about trendlines and Sachs which make it worth more money..

I'm sorry if I have offended you by asking a question but you seem to be the only person who has taken exception. Maybe just ignore the thread instead of getting annoyed.

Well I split my time between Worcs. and Scotland, so it's clear to me that when I sell my 172 Cup I'll have to take it to the furthest of those two locations from whoever wants to view it! After all, the furthest ones are the best, right?

55k and just me as the only owner in case you were wondering...

Entirely standard Mondial blue 172 Cup except for a K-tec stealth stainless exhaust. Only other replacement was rear shocks and timing belt. Currently running on 15" all-season tyres (snow was here until Monday) with original 16“ Turini as spare and rest in storage. Just sailed through its MOT last month.

Last friday I left my house in cardiff at 4am, got to bristol airport for 5:30am, got a flight at 7:00am to glasgow.. bought the car and left glasgow at 10:30am and headed back to cardiff which took 10 hours... fair to say that was a long day but completely worth it!
