Alloy advice.

Found some 15" Clio alloys on eBay, and I'm currently on steels.

Was wondering if they'd be a straight swap and/or if they would knock my speedo reading out.

My current tyre size is: 165/65 R14 79T

The alloy tyre size is: 185/55/15

not noticeably as the smaller profile tyre makes up for the increase in size and it is the total outer radius that dictates your spped iirc mate

There is a 2.63% difference in diameter, 15mm
in actual diameter change so will that make a difference? Speedo, etc?

Compared the sizes on eTyres calculator?

Fit a 195/45 tyre.

Or 185/45, quite hard to get hold of.

Tbf read you wrong the first time... but you are right although he won't notice the difference...

14" = 35.56cm
15" = 38.10cm so only 30.46mm difference not counting the sidewall depth

take into account that the new sidewall is 10mm smaller than his previous sidewall that gives a total diameter...

just because I am an invalid who can't do maths....

14" = 35.56 + 6.5 = 42.06
15" = 38.10 + 5.5 = 43.60

difference = 16mm....

how do you work that out?

15" = 38.10cm
16" = 40.64cm so only 12.5mm difference not counting the sidewall depth

It's not 10mm smaller. Wall profile is a percentage of the width.

New sidewall isn't 10mm smaller though. The middle figure is not mm, it is the aspect ratio i.e. percentage so a 165/65 14 tyre is 65% of 165.
There won't be a great deal of difference in speed but there are tolerances that should be adhered to. The actual speed difference is only about 1mph at 30 and 2mph at 70 but if you had a bump, it could be picked up by an assessor and insurance could be voided.

Worked it out. 19.9mm difference.

Between 15' with 185/55 and 14' with 165/65

Edit again, I did do 165.

Maybe but don't know how it stands with any speedo regs etc. and if the difference in tyre size needed to be declared, rather than just an alloy wheel mod.

the speedo will be a very minimal percentage different... you won't even notice the difference while driving pal

as said its 43.43mm 2.53% difference.

when you are doing 70mph on the originals you will be doing 71.77mph on the new size.

if you compare the new size to other clio sizes there is even less of a difference in size.

stick them on and when the tyres need changing fit 195/50/15s

The very slight difference in size won't be a problem, as most speedos over read as standard. So if anything, your speedo will be more accurate with the slightly larger tyre.
