alpine ida-x001 head unit

i have recently installed this and i am trying to connect my 5th generation 30gig ipod by USB (cable from head unit and ipod cable) to the head unit (which should work according to the manual) however every time i put my ipod in i get USB DEVICE ERROR come up on the screen. i know a few of you have this head unit and the new version (x100) any suggestions? anyone had similar prob?

shouldn't matter should it? this is a 1-2year old head unit. about same age as my ipod

is your ipod unlock??
so it can be view as a storage device??
if so then this might do it,
other than that, id just update ur ipod as much as u can,
or reset the ipod

yes it will,doesnt matter about age,alpine will have made it to work with the most up to date version of software available at the time

yeah it's set as a storage device. updated software same occurrence.
i heard you can't use actual ipod cables with it or something and you need an alpine usb cable?
i got my 2nd hand so i don't have this :/

I got the cable with mine and haven't had a problem. You can buy a "high speed" cable from Alpine for the older iPods, you might need this?? If not just the standard one should do.
