Alternatives from PC?

  Ibiswhite Audi S3 8P
Hi,

im from Luxembourg, so I cant be arsed to import a PC etc...

Just surfed the internet a bit, and I found some other polishing machines.

So I wanted to ask for some suggestions. There is one called Matika 9227CB, and one Matika BO6040.

Dont know which one suits my needs best. The 9227CB looks more like the PC you use.

My artic blue 182 has got stripes on it. Shouldnt be a problem to machinepolish over them?

The paint on the car, isnt exceptionnally bad. Just the normal swirls everywhere, when looking at the paint under the sunlight. Really annoying that is...

Also: Can someone recommend some products, and foam (or whatever?) pads to use?

I know that there r some guys on here that do that as professionals so would be nice to hear there comments\suggestions (Brazo, Rich, etc.)

Thx

I am just a hobbyist am far from a pro!

The Matika 9227CB is a rotary polisher so lacks the safety margin of the PC.

The Makita BO6040 Polisher is a safer option as it can be used in both a rotary and random orbit daul action mode like a PC - http://www.autogeek.net/bo6040.html

A few guys over here use them, disadvantage is they are stuck with a fixed backing plate so you can't use spot pads with one.

Depending on what products and pad choice will depend on if you can go over the stripes. Not sure what pads you can run on the BO6040 but you will need, light cut, polishing and finishing ones. The Meguiars ones should fit.

Polishes wise either the Megs Pro range of 83 and 80, Poorboys SSR range or the Menzerna range will all work well.

Hmmkay...So looks like the Porte Cable is the thing to have then. And it does not exist in european form or anything?

Rich: Do u know of any model that can be compared to the PC ?

Thank you for your replies.

The Makita BO6040 or one of the Dewalt Random Orbitals are as close as you will get to the PC. Both run a little to fast and have the fixed backing plate issue over a Porter Cable. The is no real sopy cat machine. Meguiars are meant to be doing a UK PC soon though.

It is so simple to import from Autopia I would go down the PC route to be honest.

Got no choice then...But for the moment Im so confused with 110V then 220V, 240V, plugs etc.
Then, here is again different from the UK.

So I would need: A waterproof transformer (to go from 110V to 220V..right?),
then I would need an adaptor for the plug (eurostyle), which somehow has to be fitted to the cable leading to the transformer...
Dont know if I got that right so far.

Really want that PC...

Hey Rich,

So that would be the only additional cost that would be involved in getting a PC to work here?

I found some, but they looked not suitable for outdoor use...Anyone knows a site where I can order a waterproof one or something?

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Don't understand a word of the description, and we're advising a PC as it's a known quantity and the bits are out there to get to use it properly. If you get something like that the fitment for the pads may be different limiting what you can do with it...

I have just ordered a Porter Cabe from the U.S.

My order was based on this machine being the safest to use, and this machine comes highly recommended.

Why would you want a weather proof P.C.? Why would you want to P.C. your car in the rain?

I have just re-wired my just delivered P.C. so it now has 20 metres of yellow arctic cable coming directly out of it. I can then leave the transformer in my front shed and plug the P.C. into it. Therefore I will not be dragging the plug about, and puddles wont be an issue.

Found a Transformer here, but it would cost me 230 Euros...^^ Big rip off.

I think I'll be buying the Makita BO6040.

Thx for all the replies though.
