Alternator potentially needs replacing...

I think my alternator needs replacing. But I need to go and see my mate today to get the full story. Was only told this through my dad who death with it yesterday.

Ive got a 182 FF with pure Motorsport air con delete kit.

If the alternator does need replacing. I think the bolt holes are threaded and the alternator is not secure. Potentially why my battery has been running flat too maybe? Is there a better or upgraded light weight one to go for?

Or do I just replace it with another original item?

Rough idea on costs? Best place to order one?

Cheers

I can't help you with the other questions but I got mine from eurocarparts for £180ish which I thought was pretty cheap. That was after discount and giving my knackered one back though.

I think the non-aircon ones are cheaper still.

  182, SQ7, Trafic
Haha, I'll always goto Renault first nowadays as their pricing isn't too bad, plus you get that added bonus of it definitely fitting!

...but the struggle of telling them that 'the MK2 Clio DID come as a 2.0' and 'no it's not a 1.2'. The parts guy at my local one tried telling me a RS grille wouldn't fit my old Clio and that it cost £85!

But I agree, they do seem a bit hit and miss on price depending on the part.

Yes, Unfortunately that is a problem in a lot of places. Luckily my parts guy had a 172 and 182 when they first come out, and the other guy in there is fairly clued up too! Plus I get trade or price match on some items.

Got my shocks for the same price Wests sell at!

I got told that Wests didn't exist. I then took my invoice from Wests in which also showed the price (£16 for 7l of coolant, not £44 like they robbed off me!). Hate the place!

Wests are brilliant though :)

Cool. So it's about 220 quid.

Do I go for a cup one then seeing as mine has no air con? Or just a normal 182 one.

How does it work on exchange if you're getting it delivered. Say from Adam at Renault in derby I think it was. Do they ask you to post the old one back?

He seems to know his stuff from everything he's done for us before. Even has Renault cam locking tools to my surprise.

He did say and 'hour or so' though so that does give him some extra scope.

How long does it take you?

Sounds about right.

Got the PM air con delete kit on it. Belt is practically brand new. Was told I wouldn't need a new one and it would be fine to re-use it. Would you still replace it either way Danny?

Really OK thanks. I've just added one onto my current PM order to save on future postage. So will probably get it changed over sooner than later.

Cheers
