Alternator?

Hi guys today I noticed the red Stop and Battery warning lights lighting up whenever I was idling. On the move they went out. This happened repeatedly.

Without the fans on it seemed to not happen just a slight flicker. But fans back on it did it again. So suspecting the alternator is on the way out? Car has just done 60k and I know the previous owner didnt do it so possibly original? Would you all suspect the same? Not sure of the battery age.

What specification alternator would you buy? Euro Car Parts are doing 30% off today but have a 75amp and 110amp (alot more dosh) for the 182. Any idea what the standard specification one on the car is?

OK think I have partially answered my own question. My car is a 182FF so with climate etc I believe its the 110A model.

Any suggestions from anyone about the best place to get one? Thanks.

Check the wiring on the alternator first off. Have a search on here for that fault.

Same symptoms as I had a few weeks ago. Also wipers were slow and washer jet pump was very weak. Original 10 and half year old alternator. Changed it, now it's fine.

OK yes noticed my washer jet was a bit weak the other day too so suspecting the same. Also noticed slight dim of dash lights etc when using additional electrical sources - radio, fan etc.

Where did you get your alternator out of interest? How much was the part and labour? Thanks.

Thanks for that. Guessing I need to be a full member to access the articles. Only had my Clio a month or so. Hadnt joined as a paid member as yet. Will do now though thanks.

I took it to a mechanic I know in a local garage. I think it was about £200 fitted, he supplied the alternator. It was a reconditioned one. Im sure i read somewhere original Renault ones are about £450 is, but don't quote me on that. Prior to it packing up I'd had no problems, the first indication was battery, stop light, abs light etc flickering then became constant then wouldn't start. The battery was less than 12 months old at the time. He checked the cable on the alternator and earth strap first just to rule them out.
