Car  none :(
Thinking of getting a 182, but the only thing that is putting me off is the cost to buy one,. i mean i could possibly get the money together but do i wanna be in debt for another 4/5 yrs.

what would you peeps do
 
Err well if you want one and can afford it, buy one. If you cant then don't. Seems quite simple really.

Personally I would buy one as you will love it. Don;t forget about insurance costs, fuel economy etc.

What does that work out a month in repayments, £150? It's not that much, especially if you still live at home. Do it, you only live once, you'll regret it otherwise. It's part of the learning curve, well that's what i tell myself anyway:approve:
 
i took a loan out for my first cup, bought it for 9k sold it a year later for 7.3k
then a couple of months later bought another cup for 6.5K
so if you prepared to have a loan and not be bothered by the fact that the car will lose value then do it
 
If you can afford it do it and enjoy yorself, not worth doing yourself short for a car though.

If you can afford it and think that you will be alright for the next 4-5 years then go for it. As shibber said don't forget about insurance costs, fuel economy etc. I couldn't afford one until last year (29 old by most people on here) but i had university to pay off and a house to buy etc
 
I had a perfectly good Saxo VTS. Almost paid for, reliable, all good.

Still thought what the hell, get a 172. Always wanted one, you're only here once. Get it while you're young enough to enjoy it. I'll always regret not getting a Clio 16v when I could have, when they were newish.

Haven't regretted my decision. Fuel econony's a b**ch though. I put £38 of Optimax in a week (about £35 normal fuel) and struggle to get 280 miles.

Sing it Charlie, I'm 30 come November and it's deffo not the cheapest car to run by any stretch of the imagination. You buy the car for what it is and expect to pay for the running of it.

I suggest just buy one and enjoy it . That will soon make your mind up whether you can afford it or not :cool:

I reluctanly share the my 182 cup with my boyfriend and am thinking about getting a 172 cup as well as i can't stand him interferring with driving "my" car (we have a 1.3 ford escort as our "boring" journey crap car). Can we afford a 172 cup probably not but the temptation is so so strong.....................
 
Depedns there are other things more important than just cars in life in a year you'll probably want somehting different so you'll end up spending all your money on the car.

Don't get me wrong the 172/182's are great cars but think of the money you could save with a cheaper car or a diel to spend on other things.
 
Im in the same boat when i sell the hybrid mate. Weather i go for a CTR or s2k il be in around 12ks debt over 4/5 years.

You know what though, i dont care, its only money at the end of the day and il have a nice car for it........The only way i wouldnt do it is if i had to put all my cash into the loan/running of the car but i take it you wont have that problem either.

If your still young, living at home and not planning on getting a mortgage anytime soon then why not. Dont forget you can sell the car if things change too. :)
 
always tricky, my mate who i worked beside left my work to go to a better paying job, he thinks great more money for spending, 1 month later he bought a house, 2 months after that he bought a BMW M3 3 weeks after that he was sacked.

mortgage and new car and no income, he now has another job but struggles to get cash together for a good night out on the town more than once every 2 months:dapprove:

lessons learned here are (while im in a philosophical mood!):S

you can always afford it but there are risks involved

like the stereophonics say "you can have it all if you like and you can pay for it the rest of youre life"

on the other hand my dad always tells me

"live every day as if its you're last, coz one day you will be right"

probably only succedeed in making you more confused:rasp:

I know the feeling, whenever the other half borrows my 172 I start sweating and panicking. I keep trying to convince her that there is no need for her to use my car as she has a brand new 1.6 Dynamic.
Her response is mine is more fun. Fair Point.

why dont u get a loan that has to option to pay it off early that way you can get one if u realise you cant afford to run it u can sell it n pay back the loan in full.

i took out a loan 4 my 1.2
 
the way i look at it is you're always going to be shelling out for a car, be it running and repairing an old one, or having a new one and paying the finance, tends to worl out the same so i'd get one if i were you, plus should be able to get some decent prices on 182's with the new tank out soon
 
My rule of thumb is that I save up and pay cash unless:

1, the period of the loan does not exceed that of the warranty

2, I have fully comp insurance and can afford to reinsure the vehicle full comp if I have to make a claim

End of.
 
yeah go for it - why not

im going to in a years time as ive only had my dynamique for a year almost

f**k the debt - we will always be paying out for cars
 
Nice cars but I'd be reluctant myself to pay £900 in insurance for a 172/182..they are quick but not that quick.

Up to you though, if you really want one that badly, get the money down and realise the dream:D
