Am I right in thinking...

On Saturday morning the inside of my steering wheel caught fire after I pressed the horn & now my rotary arm is melted, surely because this is clearly the manufactures fault I shouldn't have to pay a penny! Should I ring through to Renault customer services or are they going to tell me to do one?

You can try ruk but as the 182's are getting on a bit I doubt your have any luck unfortunately.
