AM radio reception in 172 not working

I've just changed my head unit as the original Renault one was dying. One of the many problems it had was that I couldn't get AM radio. I've just installed a new non-Renault headunit but for some reason I've still not got any AM reception.

Anyone know what the problem might be? I assumed both FM and AM worked off the same aerial, and FM works okay :S

happens all time in fords. Nothing wrong with reception on the renault radios so not surprised it hasnt helped.

maybe a bad earth?
