Amber Engine Management Light

  Clio 172
Hi everybody, very new here!

Cleaned my car the other day ('02 plate 172), thought I'd do a really good job of it and pressure washed very gently from a distance the engine, so I drove it for at least 15 miles and absolutely fine, then tonight it's thrown a wobbly!

The Amber EML has come up on the right hand side of the dash, and sounds like its running on three cylinders, obviously panicking a little bit I've dropped it off at the garage tonight, but driving there sometimes it would run perfectly and then go back to really lumpy, its not in limp mode because it will rev up to 3900, i didnt dare take it past that! The light mainly flashed but occasionally it would be lit up constantly.

My question is, is it likely I've put water where I shouldn't have or is it just coincidental and in fact my engine has just completely pooped itself?

Thanks very much!

Could of just got a bit of water down one of the plugs. Have you checked to see if the air filter is not wet?

No I literally just looked under the bonnet to check there wasn't a con rod staring back at me, panicked for a bit as I was intending to sell it soon, so I took it straight to the garage just to be on the safe side, I'm actually a tractor fitter and welder so I probably could have poked around a bit more I just hate working on cars!

TBF if it was me, if it is little wet then i would have just taking it for a long drive as maybe the heat of the engine would of evaporated any water about.

I considered doing exactly that but I didn't want to run the risk of doing anymore damage than I had to! The garage I've taken it to is sound as sound so hopefully I won't get screwed!
