AmI Not Driving It Hard Enough????????????

Had my 172 for a week now, almost got rid of the "pimp my ride look", back to standard soon.
?? See from hand book there is a gearstick symbol on dash, how hard do you need to be trying revs wise to get this to work???

Comes on just before the red line for me when the car is warm. Sooner if the engine is cold I believe. I usually try to change gear before it comes on because it feels like I'm being nice to the car then ;)
 
It should be 300rpm before the limiter its just a warning that your getting close to the limiter nothing to do with optimum shifts etc. Some 182/172's doesn't seem to have it I'd think its just the wiring or a broken bulb as they all should have it.

The older 172's didn't have the shift light I don't think, along with the alloy bonnet. Although mine's a W reg and has it... :S

Mine comes on just before the limiter. Give it a shot in 2nd gear once its warmed up!
That's where the most fun is :D I like the sound of hitting the limiter for a split second :eek:

My w reg mk1 172 had it to. The shift light worked really well on that. The one on my 182 is pants compared. I also had an alloy bonnet on it too.

yeh, done that, against a corsa off the lights, i looked stooooopid, but stuck it in second a battered him.

why does it do that at the limiter?It's like "nooo too much you're hurting me" and it hits back!

Not entirely sure, but I think MarkCup was saying that it gives you a few more rpm to play with yeah
