Amp power in a MK2 172

  Silver Fabia vRS

Help! I am going to buy an Amp and Sub to go with my exsisting setup in my MK2 172 but am at a loss of how to get power from my engine bay to the boot.

So who else has managed this and can give me some hints and tips on how to get the power to the boot?

Cheers

Follow the bonnet release cable. It goes through an oval grommet and its plenty large enough for the biggest cable!! It comes out above the brake pipe thingy??? behind the carpet in the engine bay. Free the steering reservoir and you can get your hand down....you will lose skin!!

Good luck.

Ill show you on mine next time we meet up....if you can wait that long.

I jyust drilled my own hole and stuck a grommet through (bought from halfords the rip-off merchants), not much hassle really.

Cheers Zydered but I sorted this by going through the bonnet release grommet last week. I am all Amped and Subed up now! Just got to wait a few weeks before I start my boot install.

quick question on this;

if i want to run a power line from the battery to an amp in the back, how do u wire it so that the amp doesnt drain the battery when the ignition is off ???

or is this a stupid question ???

As long as the stereo isnt on with the ignition off the battery wont drain. As soon as you turn the stereo on with the ignition off you will start draining the battery.

The length of time varies on how big the battery is, how much a load the stereo system takes. I would reckon leaving it on for around 30mins to 1 hour should be ok?

Any stereo buffs want to correct me?

The thin remote cable (normally blue) that connects from the stereo to the amp is the signal to turn the amp on and off, so if the headunit is off, so should the amp.

Assuming that the engine is off, you can leave a manufacturers setup on for 2 hours safely, so anything more power hungry, including a direct feed from the battery to an amp should reduce the time accordingly. Obviously depends on how loud you play the music as it will draw more current the more it is cranked up.

Still, you can always pack a set of jump leads!!

ah right fair enough then....

i did wonder :)

i guess the same would apply then to the sony active sub thingy I have sitting in my boot at the moment then ?? (not wired in... just sitting !!)
