amping sub and components

Im gonna take what seems to be most peoples advice and not get 6x9s. Ive already got components in the front and Im gonna get a sub and amp. I dont want to buy 2 amps, not so much because of the money but I want to keep space in my boot. Can you use the same amp to power the components and sub or will that sound crap? I guess if I only amped the sub, the bass would overpower the mid and treble, right?

Has anybody got any pics of how they have secured their sub and amp? Just wondering cos I dont really have a clue how Im gonna do it. I would prefer to be able to take it all out without leaving massive holes, for resale purposes.

to be honest, velcro :) that will secure it unless you rally every single corner you take, mine isnt secured just now, but im gonna be donin my install soon, so thatll be sorted out then...

if you go for a four channel amp most will let you bridge two channels for a sub and then have the other two for the front components.need to make sure its got some crossover on it to allow the frequency for the subs and components to be seperate.

any help ?

I dont know much about amps so this might sound stupid, but will the amp send the same power to the components as it does to the sub or can you change it. Cos the components are only 200w max whereas the sub is 1000w 300w rms.

with a four channel amp you use two channels say at 50w rms too power components and brigde two channels two give 100w rms into your sub

whats your budjet?

When it comes to securing your amp - you could cut a peice of ply the exact size of the carpet - or just big enough to take the amp - so you spear wheel isnt blocked - ease up the lugage bar - slide the extruding bits of ply under this use industrial velcro under the other end - screw the amp onto this. or make it more like this - bar the sub box and ect - just the box for the amp

then the sub - you could get a space saver box from auto acustics and mount it in that.

you can get some very powerfull 4 channel amps so that is not a worry - if you give us your budget for both amp and sub we will be able to help

All the 4 channel amps Ive seen arent very powerful. Most are about 4x50 rms. If I bridge 2 channels, is that enough to drive a decent 10" sub, cos most seem to be at least 200w rms?

You can get a 4x100w amp for about £170ish, ive also seen 4x150w

Check out the ICE pages in back of max power, good deals to be had there

^ no please dont!! its usually splx, sony, kenwood, boshmans ect - please dont!!!

Also they may say its reduced - in comparrison to there prices - you find cheaper on the internet

i got a legacy 4 x 200w for £100 on special offer, worth £300, so have a look about, you only get what you pay for though...

  Skoda Fabia vRS

you would be better gettin 2 seperate amps mate, definitely.........

also ive got an Alpine 4 channel amp thats 50Wx4 RMS.........and it works fine with my speakers, 50W RMS is quite a bit in a car, and the volume on mine never goes past half way........

but there are some great 4 channel amps - i started with a 50rms x4 alpine as well - now have used it to run the fronts only - soon going active, while sub has a seperate - but he is short on space. something along the lines of a mac audio would be good - if you could pick up a last season model new - youl get it cheap - they are good amps - and underrated.

So are you saying that its ok to run a sub on 100w rms? I want a good sub, something like the 10" alpine R (which has 300w rms), thats gonna give me tight puncy bass. Will the cheaper subs that have a lot lower rms figure still give me this? If so has anybody got any recommendations?

My other option I guess is to get a mono amp and just use it for the sub and have the head unit powering the components. But if I did this would the bass overpower the mid and treble?

Is it true that to amp up components you have to drill through the door? This guy I know told me that theres no other way to get the wire through cos its too thick.

I didnt install my components myself so I dont know where the crossovers are but i guess they must be in the doors or in the dash. If they are is there anywhere I could move them so I wouldnt have to drill through doors!?

What depends on what Ive got already? Do you mean what wires Ive got going through the doors already? If you do, theres only standard wiring.

i drilled wholes to get cable through - a bit daughnting(sp) but the best way IMO.

100rms is not really enough to run a sub well - it will run it but not to its full potential - try some of the jl amps.

if you,ve got standard wiring you can drill the standard wiring connectors where there,s no wires and feed quality wiring though the standard connectors this way no extra holes messy wiring or leaks
