An odd one.......

Was out @ pub on thurs nite. Wasnt drinkin cos i had the car. Jumped in it drove round to the dancing. Everything was fine. Came out the dancing turned the car over and the service light was on and oil level was flashing very low. I have never had the wee oil thing drop a bar but its was on the las one.
So driving up the road the service light was on. Got up the next morning and everything was fine.
I did check the dipstick and its was prob below min if not on it.

Wtf is goin on???????

I put a litre in last night jus incase i flooded it, but i totally cant get my head round it.

Any one else had this prob????

Three nights ago I had the EXACT same thing...I too thought WTF!!! It had always said "Oil OK" every time I started it then all of a sudden it had gone to 6 dashes and up came the SERV light.

I re-read the manual and apparently, it shows "Oil OK" so long as you have enough oil in the engine to keep 1 of the 6 bars lit. It only shows the bars if you manually press the trip reset button when it displays "Oil OK". I chucked a litre in and its fine again now.

So all along it was saying "Oil OK" while it had slowly been consuming it.

Hope this all makes sense...?

What mileage are you up to? Im at 4,500...

if youre consuming oil, I suggest a simple check. Disconnect the black elbow that connects the airbox to the throttle body and check if theres any oil in there. You can also check by disconnecting the breather pipe that leads into that elbow and check for oil, but thats more difficult. If you have oil in there you may have a problem. is you car chipped or modified in any way?

Im not too concerned by the oil loss...a litre in 4,500 miles, while the engine is bedding in is to be expected I think.

The manual say that you should contact Renault if its consuming more than a litre every 625 miles...if it was doing that Id contact my bank manager first...itd cost a fortune!

Ive got an R-Sprt ECU fitted...but its only been in since 3,250.

Always check you oil level using the dip stick, the gauge can be inaccurate. Alway check it when cold on level groung. dont let it get low other wise you risk runing the bearings dry = expensive engine rebuild:sick:. I check mine every 7 days or so.
