Anodising Engine Components!

  RenaultSport 182FF
Ok here we go,

Yesterday I was talking to my mate who is the manager at the garage I have my car serviced at.
As it was been serviced as expected he asked what was next on the 'to do list' and explained to him that I was intending to spray the inlet and so on.

He said to me have you looked at anodising components?:S

Now I have had a look and realise that anodising is preformed to stop erosion .etc But what I can't find out is whether its coloured or can be coloured. (I ask as this is what brought up the whole don't spray it thing)

Also is anyone aware of any companies that do anodisation on engines, or even anything for that matter?

Thanks in advance
Andrew

No he said engine component's and he was adamant on it :S

I'm pretty sure (if you use the inlet as an example) that they are made from a mixture of steel and aluminium..... however I could be wrong

We anodise lots of components, Most colours can be done.

Personally i wouldn't anodise something like the inlet as it's not a very resilient coating IMO, It's mainly to stop aluminium oxidising. You would be better powdercoating.

Afaik, if the metal is ferrous, it can be anodized. It can be coloured yes, but ask to see some work before you pay because we've had some utter shite done at places.

and most places, if you take the part you want anodising down to them will do it straight away

Has anyone ever done an engine at your company Dan?

From objects you have anodise for customer's what was the main reason they wanted it doing it?

Never done an engine, The main reason is to stop the corrosion or to harden the aluminium itself. Some people do it just because it looks good but i still think powdercoating is a more durable finish.

Cost wise i pay very little, For around 100kg of components we pay around the £50 mark, that usually consists of 1000 components. To individually hang something the size of a wheel spacer is about £1.

Mmm best do a bit more revising then ;)

Thanks mate :)
