Another Cam belt quote thread

  Clio 1.2 Billabong
I've just had a quote from Bucks Renault (An independent specialist) for a cam belt change on my 1.2 16v with aircon. The quote was for £270 using genuine Renault parts, but the bloke said it will be £130 extra if I wanted the water pump changed, so £400 all in.

The main stealers quoted me £380 for the cam belt change, and £151 extra for the pump, so £531. :quiet:

Is the water pump change really essential?
Does anyone know where I can get the same done for cheaper (preferably the Bucks / Oxon area)?

Would a 200 mile round trip to Rentech be more economical?

------
Sorry, I know this sort of question has been asked dozens of times before and I know these quotes are expensive, but I can't find any previous posts that relate to the Bucks / Oxon area. (Unfortunately most people where I live drive beamers and mercs)

water pump not really essential unless its leaking but chances are it will leak and that means cam belt job again so best get it all done at once save on labour and the hastle if it does go if you dont have it changed

the water pump costs about £30 from a motorfactor or £50 from renault, and it takes minutes to change if the belt is off, they're having a tin bath there!
