Another "Finally Got a 172" Thread (Warning: May cause Jealousy)

  Monaco
Well...I finally got a 172. And an absolute peach of one at that:

Went to view this car and was literally blown away. It looks as if it's just left the factory;

No melting steering wheel,
Immaculate Thumb Grips,
Absolutely no creasing of the leather/wear (Inc. driver seat),
28,000 miles!
all major servicing done, despite low milage,
Single lady owner,
All service history (inc. original purchase reciept),
Spare/ toolkit untouched,
I could go on...

I've never driven anything fast and this car is ridiculous. When i first drove it I was actually laughing as i put my foot on the accelerator. I've decided I'm keeping it for a long time. I just can't see myself wanting anything else!

As for mods:
Silver visions,
Clear side indicators,
New number-plates (look tatty atm),
New washer for driver headlight (Yes I've broken that already),
Engine Bay tart up,
Maybe some subtle lowering and some new wheels,
This list will almost certainly grow...

But basically it's always going to look clean, and get treated to the best parts possible. I've already had the rear wheels off and scrubbed the inner arches and the back of the wheels till you could eat your dinner off them.

I permenantly look like this ->:D

Pics to come...

Oh and of course I've already peeled of that god-awful Arny Shark sticker before you ask.

Lol I knew we didn't have a 65yr old member but i was very tempted to go check under the boot carpet. I knew I was too cocky in this thread to avoid some sort of abuse!

LOL I can imagine you sat there. Looking out the window at your new pride and joy, tapping your fingers.

Arnold Clark didn't have those stickers in 2001 so how has it had one owner from new :S

very nice, need some better pic's though to do it justice if it really is in as good condition as you say. and also, dont do any mod's leave it original!!!!

dont go ruining it!
leave it as factory intended! So few do that you'll probably have the only low-mileage, showroom-spec 172 in the UK.
which, let's face it, is what people will want in years to come.
You dont see GTT's or Willy's clios with shabby raider kits and over-size wheels in Evo articles do you?

  A thirsty 172
Very nice example you've got there.
The only thing I will say is that with such low mileage, the engine won't have properly "opened up" yet. Make sure you take it right up to the top of the rev range regularly to help loosen it up.
The quickest N/A 1*2's are those on high miles that get driven hard daily.

Tis True!

I went from a 1.2 to the 182 aswell, ace feeling of speed, believe me though, in 4 weeks you'll swear blind that it's lost some power or not driving the same as it did, get used to it so quick

Went from a 1.2 16v to a Ph1 172.

Seemed brutal!

I have to admit, I was nothing short of embarrassing first time I drove it.

That’s a very good observation…
… But completely false. Smart arse.

My 1.2 was 4 months older than this one (a Y reg) and it had that very same sticker on it. My mum bought it from Shark new.

with only 28k on the clock it needs to be opened up and run in still :p
Old lady on pistonheads? :s

Yep. She was 62. She told me “it really goes when you put your foot down. Plenty of oomph!”

Will do. Need to give it a proper scrub first. Being a lady owner the engine bay hasn’t seen much soap. I’m working on cleaning it properly. The inner wheels arches and inside the alloys consumed my days off last week. Engine bay this week. Then a quick once over the exterior (she had it professionally detailed for the sale anyway). Then I’ll be pic whoring like the Clio Media section should be

Very nice example you've got there.

I gladly Comply.

tis one owner-- just checked...
Certainly is. Original purchase receipt is charged to the credit card of that single owner, and I have that receipt.

Nice fella, has it had its belts done, as it should on age?

Yep! Had about £3500 spent on services, despite it’s usage. Arnold Clark had them conned into changing loads of bits unnecessarily.
