Another "Is it the battery or alternator" query - STOP & battery lights

  RB 182 & 5GTT
Hi lads,

Had a look through the forums, but couldn't find anything conclusive..

Suffering from the old intermittent STOP & battery lights when the car is idling, or at low revs, anything below 1800rpm.. or when the battery is under load, rear de-misters, electric window relays, heaters on full blast etc.

There does seem to be a bit of a whiff from the alt. area, like scorched wire/rubber, but can't see anything obvious.

Potentially related issue (?), temp needle does rise quite quickly from cold, but doesn't exceed normal running temp. Kept an eye on it for 10 mins idling in the drive, didn't overheat, and returned to cold very quickly... making me think the sensor or wiring is playing funny buggers.

Had the battery & alt. leads off and cleaned up terminals, no difference.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Should've said... it's an 05 182.

Just reading a bit more... car does seem to be emitting a bit more from the exhausts, and fuel consumption is down.

Possible thermostat problem as well?
