Myself and my brother have just purchased a phase 1 172 (w reg) in silver for the bargain price of £800 with just over 70k on the clock, FSH and MOT until December
The is in surprisingly good condition with 4 new toyo proxes and even the standard f1's arent in bad nick. The only niggles are slight signs of corrision starting on the rear arches, the front bumper doesnt sit right and the usal melted steering wheel.
On the plus side it has eibach springs, recent discs and pads so all in all it doesnt need a great deal doing to it.
The plan is to work with a fairly small budget and get the car mechanically and cosmetically sorted with a view to doing the odd track day, certainly for me working in the car trade and driving demo's i miss actually owning a car so this will be part of the fun.
First jobs booked in at work are to take the rear bumper off, remove any bits of rust and paint. Get the dent man to go over it (at £40 for the car i cant say no) re-hang the front bumper and possible re-paint the front end and a full machine polish.
Secondly will be a quick service and to check the belts, i have a recent receipt showing its been done but would rather make sure. I will also replace the throttle and it seems to stick a little.
Once these bits are done i would like the following
Dished steering wheel most probably omp
Wheels refurb (unsure to stay with silver or powdercoat in a bright colour????)
Coilvers
Stealth exhaust (ktec,supersprint etc)
Matched inlet (seems cheap enough to do)
The car will be stored in a garage and generally used as a bit of fun, i hate the stripped look so it will be fairly standard inside the car.
If i have the cash i may look at the jms setup and some mapping but given the parts alone will cost a lot more than the car it hardly seems worth it.
Pics to follow and i guess its time i became a paid up member again!!!
