Any Clio owners upgraded from a 106?

  Black S2 106 Rallye LHD
Hello, this is my first post.

I was just wondering if many Clio owners have come from 106s?

It seems like a natural upgrade to take, so I'm just interested in experiences - speed, handling, build, etc

Thanks in advance,:clown:

  106 GTi
Welcome to CS, Not a 106 but changed from 306 XSi and 205 GTi one. No regrets here.

Umm, I don't think so :p

  ex Clio 172 owner :(
I went from a 2000 Saxo VTS to a 53 Clio 172. Almost identical to a GTi.

In my opinion, despite some of the elitist opinions on this site about Clios, especially vs a VTS, there is very little in it. A head to head race would really be down to the driver and the conditions. The Clio would give very similar drivers a slight advantage.

The Saxo being smaller and lighter certainly felt quicker. I had a few tussles with Clio RSs and there was zilch in it, the Clio only pulling slightly by higher speeds as to be expected.

As for handling, the Saxo VTS is more agile point to point, more chuckable with less body roll and feels far less 'boat like' than the Clio.

Fuel wise you will use a bit more.

  Seat Leon Cupra 290
i had a 106 rallye S2, as in my avatar, thought the rallye handled better in the corners than the clio, felt more assured of itself, but the clio had a lot more punch and has much better build qulaity

  Renaultsport Clio 182
I went from a 2001 106 GTi to a 2005 Clio 182. Not much between them performance wise, 182 obviously has more torque making it nicer to drive round town. The GTi needs some proper revs, but that's half the fun :D Handling wise, I wouldn't say there is much between it.
The Clio is a lot, lot nicer inside, more sturdy etc. But then, you can't really compare the two in that department, due to the 106 being a fair bit older when it was first released.
Both great cars in my opinion, not much between them when it comes to performance.

  182 - Now Cooper S
Considering i paid 2 grand for the VTR, and 10 for the 182 theres nothing init, i havent been able to justify 8 grands worth of performance, except the 5k kick is cool.

Although the added performance isn't work an extra 8k i think that the fact that its a newer, nicer car, with a load of added extras and safety features makes it a great upgrade.

106 VTR N2O -> clio 182

a good move to a standard car

kinda wish i had got a CTR or ibiza cupra now though because renault are pretty shite.

  Clio 172

Got to say miss my 106 loads however the clio is helping me get over it. :D
