Any disadvantages of fitting a 182 manifold?

Are there any disadvantages to fitting the 182 manifold and appropriate cat/link pipe on a 172?

Also it seems weird how everyone wants a 4-2-1 manifold when usually it's people wanting a 4-1 isn't it? I know alot of the saxo guys put 4-1 manifolds on their VTS.

4-1 can be pulse tuned, 4-2-1 flows better I think.
Disadvantages would be: -
Its pricey and awkward to fit
Its not a bolt on and get 10bhp mod

Another disadvantage, you cant run a standard cat, as you'd need to link the 182 mani to the 172 exhaust.

You have to have either a sports cat, or a decat. If you were looking at running a decat, then for mot purposes you'd have to get a sports cat too, which will cost a fair bit.

Cheers, not interested in the cost/fitting implications, purely on if it'll have an adverse effect in any way on performance etc. I'll deal with the former once everything has arrived :)

Depends on the outlay though, if all in all it'll cost less fitted than a set of matched inlets (bought outright that is) it's not too bad :)

that was the question in my mind. 'Headers people' all know that 4-2-1's are all good for lower rpm's whereas 4-1's are all good for high rpm's. For an engine like F4R giving most of its power after 5k rpm I expect that the 4-1's are better. But certainly after looking the results there is nice amount of gain once this babe is fitted. Here is the tricky part it is not an easy and cheap mod so the people getting it fitted prefer having a remap and decat at the same time. Overall gain is gonna be huge once this three is done. I would like to see a back to back RR result of 4-1 and 4-2-1 without any remap. The same thing applies for the inlet mani thing again it is certainly good to have in fact I did it myself.

i'm awaiting my manifold back but i only just sent if off the other day, im wondering if my oe ecu will cope until i manage to get it remapped after fcs?

to get the most out off it I would say map is needed. Check the iginition correction factor or whatever it is when the car is connected to the CLIP otherwise no way of finding the AFR since it is working opeen loop after some certain rpm, you obviously need a wideband and AFR meter after that level.

im just wondering if its gonna run lean or not until i get it remapped as i'll still have an hour's drive to get it mapped aswell

  M2 Competition
It will run lean, but not to detrimental effect mate. Wont be any problem driving it with the mani fitted without remap.

right so i'll be alright driving it till its remapped? im taking your pepperami sessalami word for it

Yus. But as above, the 182 cat wouldnt link to a 172 exhaust, you'd need to buy a link pipe sports cat anyways.

the 182 manifold will lose you some top end i've got one and lower down there were big gains but the power drops off earlier

i'll confirm that you will lose top end but the main gain is lower down .

batman - i ran my manifold for about 2/3 months before getting the remap , no probs there either .

yes the cost is a disadvantage but imo worth it for the return of power .

182 cat will not fit as its too long but you can use a cat off another car and it'll be fine.

My 172 never lost any top end, infact id say the opposite. Mine seemed to pull more higher up the rev range.

Like any breathing mods its not essential to get it mapped but you will get the best out of them doing so

Probably 'thee' biggest advantage of a 182 mani is if your running a decat its a piece of p155 to change come MOT time compered to the ball acher of the 172 unit.
